Connected Logistics is seeking a Senior Cloud Security Engineer to support the Cybersecurity Architecture and Engineering Services supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Information Security (OIS) Cybersecurity Operations Systems Engineering (COSE) program .

The Senior Cloud Engineer provides specialized cybersecurity engineering expertise for complex, high-impact information systems and cloud environments. This role analyzes security requirements, evaluates approved security technologies and product capabilities, and designs and implements security solutions that protect applications, infrastructure, data, and mission services. The Senior Cloud Security Engineer supports complex security requirements, including multilevel security (MLS), by assessing security risks, defining technical safeguards, and integrating security controls into enterprise and cloud architecture. The role works with technical and mission stakeholders to understand organizational objectives, existing security capabilities, system requirements, and ongoing cybersecurity initiatives to develop secure, scalable, and mission-aligned solutions. The Senior Cloud Security Engineer also provides technical leadership, daily supervision, and direction to assigned cybersecurity and engineering staff.

Key Responsibilities

- Analyze and define cybersecurity requirements for high-level, mission-critical applications, systems, and cloud environments.
- Evaluate approved security products, platforms, services, and capabilities against technical and mission security requirements.
- Design, develop, engineer, and implement cybersecurity solutions supporting complex system and multilevel security requirements.
- Analyze MLS requirements and develop appropriate technical security solutions and architectural approaches.
- Assess system and cloud architectures to identify security vulnerabilities, control gaps, threats, and technical risks.
- Perform cybersecurity risk analysis activities, including risk assessments, identification of potential security impacts, and development of recommended mitigation strategies.
- Gather, analyze, and organize technical information concerning mission objectives, organizational requirements, existing security products, system architectures, and ongoing cybersecurity programs.
- Develop security architecture recommendations that align cybersecurity controls with system, application, data, and mission requirements.
- Incorporate security engineering principles throughout system and application design, development, implementation, and operational activities.
- Collaborate with cloud, infrastructure, application, DevSecOps, cybersecurity, and enterprise architecture teams to integrate security requirements into technical solutions.
- Provide subject matter expertise to technical teams and stakeholders regarding cybersecurity architecture, system security engineering, cloud security, and risk reduction.
- Review proposed architectures and technical solutions to identify security implications and recommend appropriate safeguards.
- Support the implementation and validation of security controls and security technologies within complex IT and cloud environments.
- Develop and maintain cybersecurity engineering documentation, technical recommendations, risk assessments, architecture artifacts, and supporting security documentation.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to cybersecurity engineers, system engineers, developers, and other technical personnel.
- Provide daily supervision, task direction, quality oversight, and technical mentoring to assigned staff.
- Coordinate cybersecurity engineering activities to ensure technical solutions are implemented consistently with established security requirements and mission objectives.

Requirements

- Public Trust: T4 or T5 (TS)
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline or an Associate's degree in the above discipline with an additional 2 years of experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in cybersecurity, security engineering, security architecture, information technology, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing and defining security requirements for complex IT systems or applications.
- Experience evaluating security technologies and incorporating security capabilities into technical solutions.
- Experience designing, engineering, or implementing cybersecurity solutions.
- Experience performing cybersecurity risk analysis and risk assessments.
- Ability to analyze technical, mission, and security requirements and translate those requirements into implementable security solutions.
- Ability to communicate complex cybersecurity concepts and technical recommendations to engineering teams, technical leadership, and other stakeholders.
- Experience providing technical direction, oversight, or supervision to technical personnel.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience designing and securing cloud-based, hybrid-cloud, or enterprise IT environments.
- Knowledge of cloud security architecture, security engineering principles, and security control implementation.
- Experience integrating cybersecurity capabilities into cloud platforms, applications, infrastructure, and DevSecOps environments.
- Experience supporting complex security architectures, including multilevel security (MLS) environments or systems with multiple security classifications or access requirements.
- Familiarity with identity and access management, data protection, encryption, network security, application security, logging, monitoring, vulnerability management, and security automation.
- Experience assessing security architectures and recommending technical controls or mitigation strategies to reduce identified risks.
- Experience working across cybersecurity, cloud engineering, application development, infrastructure, DevSecOps, and enterprise architecture teams.
- Experience producing cybersecurity architecture documentation, security engineering artifacts, risk assessments, technical analyses, and implementation recommendations.
- Strong technical leadership, mentoring, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills.

This is a good-faith range based on factors such as your experience, geographic location, and any applicable contractual requirements, and may vary slightly.
