Position Summary
Beasley Forest Products is seeking a dependable and safety-minded Mechanic Level 1 to join our maintenance team on Day Shift . This position is responsible for assisting with the inspection, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, repair, and general upkeep of machinery and equipment throughout our lumber manufacturing facility.
The ideal candidate will have good mechanical aptitude, hands-on experience working with machinery or industrial equipment, and a willingness to continue learning. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment and willing to assist other departments or perform duties outside of their primary position when directed by management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and assist with repairs of production machinery and industrial equipment.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance according to established maintenance schedules.
- Identify worn, damaged, or malfunctioning mechanical components.
- Repair or replace components such as bearings, belts, chains, sprockets, pulleys, hoses, fittings, seals, and other mechanical parts.
- Assist with troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic systems , including hoses, cylinders, valves, pumps, and related components.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of electrical components when trained and authorized to do so.
- Assist with motors, sensors, switches, wiring, and other basic electrical components as needed.
- Use mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting techniques to identify equipment problems.
- Lubricate machinery and equipment according to preventative maintenance requirements.
- Respond to machinery breakdowns and assist with safely returning equipment to operation.
- Assist experienced mechanics with major repairs, equipment installations, modifications, and maintenance projects.
- Safely operate and use hand tools, power tools, mechanic tools, grinders, drills, impacts, and other maintenance equipment.
- Use measuring devices and tools as needed to complete repairs accurately.
- Perform basic welding and fabrication work when qualified and necessary.
- Safely use MIG welding equipment and cutting torches when trained and authorized.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized conditions.
- Follow all company Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before performing maintenance or repairs.
- Follow all company safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Communicate equipment problems, necessary repairs, safety concerns, and maintenance needs to supervisors or management.
- Complete assigned repairs and preventative maintenance tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist production employees and other maintenance personnel when necessary.
- Be willing to perform job duties outside of normal Mechanic Level 1 responsibilities when requested by management based on operational needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Experience
- At least 1 year of mechanical, industrial maintenance, manufacturing maintenance, automotive, heavy equipment, or similar hands-on mechanical experience is preferred.
- Candidates with less experience may be considered based on demonstrated mechanical aptitude, training, and willingness to learn.
- Basic knowledge of industrial machinery and mechanical systems preferred.
- Basic knowledge or experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems preferred.
- Basic electrical knowledge and troubleshooting ability preferred.
- Experience working with electric motors, sensors, switches, wiring, or industrial electrical components is a plus.
- Basic fabrication experience is a plus.
- Ability to safely use common mechanic and maintenance tools.
- Familiarity with tools including:
Wrenches and socket sets
- Impact wrenches
- Grinders
- Drills
- Hammers and mallets
- Pliers and specialty mechanical tools
- Multimeters and basic electrical testing equipment
- Grease guns and lubrication equipment
- Measuring tools
- Ability to identify and safely use the proper tool for the assigned task.
- Ability to read basic equipment manuals, measurements, diagrams, and maintenance instructions.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance and production team.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality are required.
- Must be willing and able to learn new machinery, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position, including:
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods throughout a 12-hour shift .
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist as needed.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs as required to access machinery, equipment, and work areas.
- Ability to safely climb on, around, or into equipment when required for inspection or repair.
- Ability to work at various heights when necessary.
- Ability to work in tight or confined areas as required.
- Ability to safely work around moving industrial machinery and equipment.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 pounds or more as required.
- Ability to use hand and power tools for extended periods.
- Ability to perform physically demanding maintenance work throughout the scheduled shift.
Schedule and Availability Requirements
- This is a Day Shift position working 12-hour shifts .
- Candidates must be able and willing to work the assigned 12-hour schedule.
- Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed .
- Schedule flexibility is required based on production schedules, equipment breakdowns, preventative maintenance, and operational needs.
- Employees may occasionally be required to remain beyond their normal scheduled shift when necessary to assist with equipment repairs or other operational needs.
Work Environment
This position is performed in an industrial lumber manufacturing environment. Employees may regularly be exposed to:
- Moving machinery and equipment
- Loud noise
- Wood dust and debris
- Heat and cold
- Outdoor weather conditions
- Grease, oil, and other materials commonly associated with industrial maintenance
- Elevated work areas
- Tight or confined work areas
Employees are required to follow all company safety policies and procedures and always wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
