Project Engineer

Job Title: Project Engineer Job Description This Project Engineer role supports large-scale, ground-up civil construction projects for remote man camp developments that function as self-contained, 4,000-person cities. You will help deliver complex projects that include site development, underground utilities, and interconnected boardwalk systems, contributing to both subcontractor and general contractor scopes on projects ranging from approximately $150M to $250M in value. This position offers hands-on experience in fast-paced, remote environments and is well suited for entry to mid-level professionals seeking to grow their construction management and field engineering expertise. Responsibilities

- Support the planning and execution of ground-up civil construction projects, including site development, underground utilities, and boardwalk systems connecting trailer units.
- Assist with day-to-day project engineering activities on large-scale man camp projects designed to support data center operations.
- Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders to help ensure work progresses according to plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Prepare, maintain, and organize project documentation, including logs, reports, drawings, and other records required for project tracking and compliance.
- Support basic project scheduling activities, including updating timelines, monitoring progress, and communicating schedule impacts to the project team.
- Contribute to the monitoring of construction processes and field operations to help ensure quality, safety, and adherence to project requirements.
- Assist in resolving field issues by gathering information, reviewing plans and specifications, and coordinating with project leadership to implement solutions.
- Participate in meetings with project teams to review progress, identify risks, and support timely decision-making.
- Support project delivery on both subcontractor and general contractor scopes, adapting to changing priorities and fast-track project demands.
- Travel and work on a project-based assignment in Texas, remaining flexible to evolving project needs in a remote environment.

Essential Skills

- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 1–2+ years of experience supporting commercial or industrial construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction processes and field operations, particularly for ground-up construction.
- Experience with civil construction activities such as site development and underground utilities.
- Proficiency with project documentation, including organizing, tracking, and maintaining records.
- Familiarity with basic scheduling tools and techniques for monitoring project timelines.
- Ability to work effectively on fast-track and large-scale construction projects.
- Willingness to work on project-based assignments in Texas, including remote locations.
- Strong communication and coordination skills to support field teams and project stakeholders.
- Ability to work in challenging outdoor conditions for extended periods.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience working on remote, fast-track, or large-scale projects is preferred.
- Bkgd in man camp, industrial, or data center-related construction environments is beneficial.
- Exposure to both general contractor and subcontractor roles on complex projects is an advantage.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing project demands and priorities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing documentation and field information.
- Interest in building a long-term career in civil construction and project engineering.

Work Environment This role is based on a remote project site in a very isolated area near Abilene, Texas, where a man camp is being constructed to support a 4,000-person community. The environment is fully field-oriented and can be dusty, hot, and affected by insects such as flies. You will work outdoors for much of the day around active civil construction operations, including ground-up site work, underground utilities, and installation of boardwalks connecting trailer units. The project operates as a fast-paced, large-scale construction effort with significant coordination between trades and teams. The setting is highly remote with limited nearby amenities, and you should be comfortable working in challenging weather conditions and rugged terrain while adhering to site safety and attire requirements appropriate for a heavy construction environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Abilene, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
