Job Title: Sales Engineer Job Description
This Sales Engineer role is a hybrid position that combines sales, customer and technical support, project management, and design. You act as the technical expert bridging the gap between sales, manufacturing, and customer requirements. In this role, you understand client needs, present tailored technical solutions, support the sales process, and manage projects from concept through completion. You will design impactful custom solutions and take ownership of projects from initial contract signing to final delivery, contributing directly to customer success in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the project manager following a sale, taking end-to-end ownership of projects from contract signing through delivery.
- Coordinate project timelines, resource allocation, and deliverables to ensure on-time and successful completion.
- Act as the central point of contact linking the client, internal manufacturing, field service teams, and third-party contractors.
- Ensure seamless cross-functional communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
- Understand client requirements and translate them into practical, technically sound solutions.
- Present technical solutions that align with customer needs and support the sales process.
- Provide technical support to customers and internal teams before and after the sale.
- Perform engineering design work on projects similar to those handled by a design engineer.
- Apply mechanical and project engineering principles to develop and refine custom solutions.
- Assist with estimation activities to support proposals, bids, and RFP responses.
- Support project coordination activities, including documentation, scheduling, and status reporting.
- Collaborate with sales to ensure technical accuracy and feasibility of proposed solutions.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated experience in sales engineering, applications engineering, project engineering, mechanical design, or technical customer support.
- Strong project management and project coordination skills, including the ability to manage timelines, resources, and deliverables.
- Ability to perform engineering design work, with exposure to mechanical or related engineering disciplines.
- Proficiency with design tools and CAD software for developing technical solutions.
- Solid understanding of engineering principles, preferably in mechanical, electrical, industrial, or engineering technology fields.
- Ability to interpret and contribute to RFPs, technical proposals, and project estimates.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interface with clients, manufacturing, field service, and contractors.
- Ability to act as a technical expert and bridge the gap between sales and engineering.
- Problem-solving skills to translate customer requirements into practical, custom solutions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred.
- Experience working in roles that combine technical design with customer interaction and support.
- Comfort working in a collaborative environment where cross-functional teamwork is essential.
- Interest in owning projects from concept to completion and influencing customer success through technical expertise.
Work Environment
The role is primarily office-based, with most work performed in a professional office setting using standard business and engineering tools, including CAD and related design software. You may occasionally need to drive to client sites for meetings, project reviews, or technical support, which may involve coordinating with field service teams and contractors. The environment emphasizes collaboration, cross-functional communication, and close alignment between sales and engineering to deliver custom solutions.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chambersburg, PA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
