Are you ready to build the future? Martin Concrete Construction is seeking a driven Assistant Estimator to join our growing Estimating team in Kennesaw, Georgia.
This is more than just an entry-level estimating role, it's an opportunity to develop your construction estimating expertise while working alongside experienced Estimators on complex commercial concrete projects across the country.
As an Assistant Estimator, you'll play an important role in the preconstruction process, helping our team develop competitive and accurate bids from initial takeoff through proposal review. You'll work closely with Estimators, Project Managers, subcontractors, vendors, and customers while gaining valuable experience that can help build a long-term career in construction estimating.
This position is based in Kennesaw, GA and works closely with our Estimating team to support projects across Martin Concrete's markets.
What You'll Do
- Assist assigned Estimators with quantity takeoffs and preparation of project bids.
- Review construction drawings, plans, specifications, and project documents to determine project requirements.
- Estimate the quantity and type of materials required to meet project specifications.
- Assist with estimating equipment, concrete, and other project costs.
- Solicit and obtain bids from qualified subcontractors and vendors.
- Distribute plans and bid documents to appropriate subcontractors and bidders.
- Enter, organize, and maintain subcontractor and vendor proposals.
- Follow up with subcontractors and vendors to obtain competitive and complete proposals.
- Review and compare subcontractor bids with Estimators and Project Managers.
- Assist with establishing project durations and overall project schedules.
- Maintain professional relationships with subcontractors, vendors, customers, and internal project teams.
- Assist with organizing large project files, bid documents, and confidential information.
- Utilize Microsoft Office, On-Screen Takeoff, and other construction software to support estimating activities.
- Work closely with the assigned Estimator to achieve estimating objectives and meet project deadlines.
- Support additional estimating and preconstruction responsibilities as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience assisting with construction estimating is preferred.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and plans.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Comfortable communicating professionally with subcontractors, vendors, customers, and internal teams.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and willing to take initiative.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Comfortable working with large project files and confidential information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with construction estimating software.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA Certification
- Experience with On-Screen Takeoff or similar estimating software
- Document control experience
- Experience with construction modeling and/or Tekla
- Previous commercial concrete construction experience
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
