Job Title: Rodman Job Description
The Rodman supports the survey crew by assisting with boundary, topographic, construction, and ALTA surveys. This role focuses on setting up and operating surveying equipment, accurately holding rods and targets, placing stakes and markers, and helping maintain clear and safe survey lines in outdoor environments. The position offers opportunities to learn land surveying practices, contribute to high-quality field data collection, and grow within the surveying and construction field.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Survey Crew Chief with boundary, topographic, construction, and ALTA surveys.
- Carry, set up, and maintain surveying equipment, including GPS units, total stations, prisms, rods, and levels.
- Hold survey rods and targets accurately during measurements to ensure precise data collection.
- Set stakes, hubs, markers, and control points as directed to establish survey layouts.
- Clear brush and obstacles to establish and maintain survey lines in various terrain conditions.
- Record field notes and verify collected data for completeness and accuracy.
- Load, unload, and organize survey equipment and supplies at job sites and in vehicles.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of surveying equipment and vehicles.
- Follow all safety procedures while working near roadways, construction sites, and undeveloped property.
- Work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions while maintaining productivity and safety.
- Collaborate with the survey crew as a reliable team member and support daily field operations.
Essential Skills
- Outdoor working experience and comfort working in varying weather and terrain conditions.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player in a field crew environment.
- Reliability and strong work ethic, including consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Willingness to learn and develop skills in surveying and land surveying practices.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations to support accurate measurements and data recording.
- Strong attention to detail when holding rods and targets, setting stakes, and recording field notes.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Interest in Surveying, Land Surveying, and construction-related field work.
- Previous construction or surveying experience is helpful but not required.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and guidelines in proximity to roadways and construction sites.
- Capability to handle physical tasks such as carrying equipment, clearing brush, and working on uneven terrain.
- Growth-oriented mindset with a desire to build a career in surveying or related disciplines.
Work Environment
This role is primarily outdoors and involves working in a variety of weather conditions and terrain, including roadways, construction sites, and undeveloped properties. The Rodman works as part of a field survey crew, using equipment such as GPS units, total stations, prisms, rods, levels, and survey vehicles. The environment is hands-on, physical, and safety-focused, with an emphasis on teamwork, reliability, and opportunities for growth in the surveying field.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Longwood, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
