Lea County Electric Cooperative is seeking a hardworking and safety-focused Groundman to support line crews in building, maintaining, and restoring the electric system that powers our communities.

What You'll Do

As a Groundman, you'll provide essential support to line crews while learning the skills and responsibilities of electric distribution work.

Support Safe Line Operations

- Follow all safety rules, regulations, and Cooperative procedures

- Participate in daily job briefings and tailboard meetings

- Identify hazards and help maintain a safe work environment

- Properly use personal protective equipment and safety tools

- Maintain safe work zones around crews, equipment, and the public

Assist Line Crews in Construction & Maintenance

- Assist with the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems

- Load, unload, organize, and transport tools, materials, and equipment

- Operate hand tools and assist with utility equipment under supervision

- Help inspect poles, lines, transformers, and related equipment

- Perform groundwork to support energized and de-energized line operations

Support Outage Restoration & Emergency Response

- Assist with storm restoration and outage response efforts

- Participate in on-call rotations and emergency assignments as needed

- Work extended hours during outages and emergency situations to help restore service safely and efficiently

Work as Part of a Team

- Follow instructions from the Line Foreman and crew leaders

- Maintain professionalism when interacting with members and the public

- Assist with maintaining vehicles, tools, and equipment

- Contribute to a positive team environment focused on safety and service

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED

- Valid driver's license

- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions

- Ability to lift heavy materials, climb, and work around utility equipment

- Willingness to learn utility linework and safety procedures

- Ability to work effectively as part of a crew

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous construction, utility, or outdoor labor experience

- Class A CDL or ability to obtain

- Interest in pursuing a lineworker apprenticeship or utility career path

- Experience operating equipment, tools, or utility vehicles

Work Environment

- Outdoor work in all weather conditions

- Physically demanding tasks including lifting, climbing, digging, and working around heavy equipment

- Irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and emergency callouts
