Position Summary : The Weapons Specialist serves as the subject matter expert on all aspects for small arms maintenance and repair. The Weapons specialist will support Special Forces training, readiness, and operational capability by providing expert-level weapons knowledge, maintenance, instruction, and operational support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs full range of work involved in the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of small arms of US, foreign, Standard, Non-Standard and obsolete US weapons, to include replacing old parts with new parts of modified design
- Makes initial diagnosis and locates mechanical deficiencies and malfunctions in automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, carbines, automatic rifles, submachine and machine guns, and other small arms and accessories
- Maintain proficiency in the operation and maintenance of all equipment, tools and accessories necessary to support a wide range of small arms to include automatic, semi-automatic & single fire pistols, rifles and shotguns
- Perform detailed assembly and disassembly of foreign and domestic small arms weapon
- Uses gauges and test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments; applies acids and/or other "bluing" or finishing agents
- Test fires and/or makes operational checks of repaired weapons to ensure safety, accuracy, and ease of operation
- Perform other support type functions such as ammo inventory and residue turn-in, publication and catalogue, tool and capital equipment maintenance, calibration control weapons cleaning, and organizational level weapons maintenance.
- Maintains all Laser and Night Vision Devices in accordance with all regulations.
- Records and reports relative to Weapons Safety Certification
- Trains less experienced workers in repair and maintenance techniques
- Observes all safety rules, regulations, and procedures
- perform other support type functions such as ammo inventory and residue turn-in, publication and catalogue, tool and capital equipment maintenance, calibration control weapons cleaning, and organizational level weapons maintenance
- May be required to work overtime, nights, and weekends to meet training requirements
Required Skills and Abilities:
- U.S. Citizenship/Residency required
- Possess SECRET security clearance
- A favorable background (NACLAC) check is required
- former 18B Special Forces Weapons Sergeant, 91F (formerly 45B) Small Arms Repairer, equitable Military Occupational Specialty (MOS), or equitable civilian certification such as Advanced Gunsmith certification who are subject matter experts on all aspects for small arms maintenance and repair
- Be in good health and cleared by a medical physician via a physical examination
- Reach above shoulders
- Use of finger
- Ability to move/carry at least 50lbs or more
- Familiar with military work environments, protocols, and jargon
- Shall be able to speak, read, and write English fluently with the ability to effectively communicate with people from diverse backgrounds
- Great attention to detail
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to work under pressure

Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write. The employee frequently is required to use foot/ankle motions, hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
