Job Title: Human Resources Generalist Job Description
The Human Resources Generalist provides comprehensive administrative and transactional support to employees and the Human Resources function. This role focuses on payroll, compensation, benefits, employee relations, and HR lifecycle activities, while partnering closely with leadership and staff across a multi-state, union and non-union environment. The position requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical employees.
Responsibilities
- Support the Director of Human Resources with department lifecycle functions, with a particular focus on payroll, compensation, and benefits administration.
- Assist employees with benefits enrollment and resolve benefit-related questions in a timely and accurate manner.
- Administer personnel files in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and internal policies.
- Investigate employee complaints, including those from union and non-union employees, and document findings appropriately.
- Support the annual performance review process by managing workflows in the HRIS system, coordinating with management, and assisting employees as needed.
- Develop and generate HR-related reports and perform data analytics to support decision-making and compliance.
- Recruit, source, and hire new employees, and coordinate onboarding activities to ensure a smooth transition into the organization.
- Assist in the management of union employees, including support for disciplinary actions, contract negotiations, and training initiatives.
- Collaborate with management on the implementation and communication of company policies and the Employee Handbook.
- Provide timely responses to employee and management questions and concerns, ensuring a high level of customer service.
- Coordinate regular training programs, including managing the Learning Management System (LMS), conducting in-person HR-related training, collaborating with internal teams, and partnering with external providers.
- Work effectively in ambiguous situations, using sound judgment and problem-solving skills to move initiatives forward.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Human Resources leadership.
Essential Skills
- 2–5 years of experience supporting a Human Resources department, including exposure to payroll, benefits, and employee relations.
- Proven ability to run payroll independently and accurately.
- 2–4 years of experience working with HRIS platforms; experience with ADP Workforce Now is highly preferred.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather and analyze information and develop alternative solutions.
- Clear and effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with both technical and non-technical employees.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Knowledge of employment laws across multiple states; experience with California employment law is preferred.
- Experience supporting employees in multi-state and multi-location environments, including remote workers.
- Experience working in a union environment is preferred.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new business software packages and programs as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive employee issues using reason and professionalism, including when dealing with emotional topics.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field.
- SHRM or HRCI certification is a plus.
- Demonstrated job knowledge, including technical HR skills, analytical abilities, and problem-solving capabilities relevant to the role.
- Commitment to staying current with emerging issues and best practices in the human resources field.
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring work is accurate, complete, and well-presented according to documented standards.
- High level of initiative, including the ability to identify and act on problems, seek out new assignments, and assume additional duties when required.
Work Environment
This position is based in an office environment located within a manufacturing facility. The role is fully on-site, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break. The dress code is business casual. The Human Resources Generalist works closely with HR leadership and collaborates with managers and employees across multiple locations. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $82500.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
