Title: On-Call Digital Video Associate Producer (Temporary)
Schedule Format - Location: Hybrid - San Francisco
Pay Information: Hourly Rate: $30.21 - $37.76
The On-call Digital Video Associate Producer supports the production of original video content across KQED’s Digital Video portfolio, including midform YouTube content, vertical video, social video, and other digital video projects distributed across KQED-owned and third-party platforms.
This position provides hands-on experience across the full digital video production process, including producing, field production, cinematography, editing, post-production, media management, research, and digital distribution. The Associate Producer will work closely with producers, editors, directors, photographers, and other members of the Digital Video team to support productions from development and pre-production through production, post-production, delivery, and archiving.
The ideal candidate is an emerging video professional with foundational experience in video production who is eager to expand their skills across multiple areas of digital video. The Associate Producer should be comfortable taking direction, learning new production tools and workflows, and taking on increasing responsibility as their skills develop.
The On-call Digital Video Associate Producer will be assigned to projects based on production needs and may support productions ranging from a single day to several months.

This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely.
Essential Functions:
- Support producers, editors, directors, and other Digital Video staff throughout the production process, from development and pre-production through production, post-production, delivery, and archiving.
- Assist with the development of video series, episodes, standalone videos, social video, and special projects.
- Conduct research for video projects, including researching subjects, locations, archival materials, and third-party media.
- Assist producers with pre-interviews, interview preparation, fact-checking, and other research as needed.
- Assist with writing, organizing, and preparing scripts, treatments, interview questions, production notes, and other editorial materials.
- Support field and studio productions, including preparing equipment, organizing production materials, assisting with lighting and audio, and supporting producers and directors on set or in the field.
- Assist with camera operation, lighting, and audio recording under the direction of producers, directors, and other production staff.
- Assist with production logistics including scheduling crew, preparing call sheets, securing permissions and permits, organizing gear, and coordinating travel, parking, locations, and other production needs.
- Assist with sourcing, tracking, and clearing third-party video, photography, music, and other media assets.
- Maintain accurate production documentation, including releases, rights information, cue sheets, production reports, and other project records.
- Ingest, organize, log, and manage media and production assets within KQED’s media asset management and post-production systems.
- Assist editors and producers with post-production, including organizing footage, preparing assemblies, implementing notes, and preparing deliverables.
- Edit video using Adobe Premiere Pro, including basic assemblies, packaging, graphics, captions, exports, and delivery.
- Create digital video assets and social media shareables, including video excerpts, GIFs, vertical video clips, thumbnails, and other promotional materials.
- Assist with creating platform-specific versions and deliverables for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, KQED.org, and other digital platforms.
- Assist with wrapping productions, including final deliverables, documentation, media management, and archiving.
- Work collaboratively with producers, editors, photographers, reporters, Audience Development, Production Operations, and other KQED teams.

Knowledge/Experience Required:
- Demonstrated foundational experience in video production through professional, internship, academic, freelance, or independent production work.
- Basic knowledge of video production, including producing, cinematography, editing, or post-production.
- Basic experience with Adobe Premiere Pro and familiarity with other Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
- Basic understanding of camera, lighting, and audio equipment and their use in video production.
- Basic understanding of digital video workflows, including media management, editing, exporting, delivery, and archiving.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong research and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with producers, editors, photographers, reporters, and other creative and editorial staff.
- Ability to receive direction and feedback and apply it effectively to future work.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while knowing when to seek guidance or escalate an issue.
- Basic understanding of journalistic editorial principles, ethics, accuracy, and standards.
- Familiarity with digital and social video platforms.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace or similar productivity tools.
Additional Knowledge/Experience Preferred
- Experience producing, shooting, or editing video through professional, academic, freelance, internship, or independent production work.
- Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, or Media Encoder.
- Experience operating DSLR, mirrorless, cinema, or other digital video cameras.
- Experience with location sound recording and basic lighting.
- Experience creating video specifically for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, or other social platforms.
- Experience with vertical video production and mobile-first storytelling.
- Experience with media asset management systems or production management tools.
- Experience conducting interviews, pre-interviews, or research for video projects.
- Experience with motion graphics, animation, or visual effects.
- Experience working in a newsroom, public media organization, production company, or other media environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in film, journalism, communications, media production, or a related field preferred.
