Grounds & Building Attendant / Porter
Part-Time | On-Site
Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Environment: Outdoor Campus
Schedule: Monday – Friday (Vary based on weather, agency needs, and seasonal demands)
Shift: 8 AM – 4:30 PM
Hourly Wage: $15/hr.

DRTC is seeking a dependable and hardworking Grounds & Building Attendant to support the maintenance, safety, and appearance of our campus grounds, building exteriors, and facilities. This safety-sensitive position plays a vital role in creating a clean, attractive, and safe environment for staff, visitors, and program participants. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in their work, and can successfully work both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain safe, clean, and visually appealing grounds and building exteriors
- Plant, transplant, and maintain flowers, shrubs, trees, and landscape features
- Mow, edge, trim, fertilize, and maintain lawns and landscaped areas
- Apply mulch for weed control and moisture retention
- Prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges to promote healthy growth and appearance
- Remove litter, leaves, debris, and hazards from grounds, sidewalks, and parking areas
- Maintain irrigation systems and coordinate repairs and seasonal servicing
- Apply herbicides, pesticides, and other approved treatments as needed
- Operate and maintain lawn and landscape equipment including mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers, snow removal equipment, chainsaws, and related tools
- Perform preventative maintenance on grounds equipment, vehicles, and facilities
- Maintain equipment inventory, supplies, and fuel levels
- Assist with basic repairs to fences, pathways, building exteriors, and grounds features
- Perform assigned custodial and janitorial duties as needed
- Assist with event setup and breakdown activities
- Complete assigned tasks using daily and weekly checklists
- Report safety concerns, hazards, equipment issues, and maintenance needs promptly
- Follow all OSHA standards, PPE requirements, agency policies, and safety procedures
- Attend required staff meetings, training sessions, and in-service programs
- Understand and support DRTC's mission, philosophy, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License
- Groundskeeping, landscaping, gardening, maintenance, or custodial experience preferred
- Knowledge of landscaping practices, plant care, and grounds maintenance preferred
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Stable work history
- Ability to make quick, logical decisions
- Must pass OSBI, MVR, DHS Registry, and other required background checks
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand and work for up to 8 hours
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. vertically and 25 lbs. horizontally
- Must be able to carry materials up to 100 feet
- Frequent bending, kneeling, twisting, reaching, climbing, and walking
- Ability to safely use ladders up to 20 feet
- Ability to operate outdoor power equipment for extended periods
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, snow, ice, mud, and rain
- Adequate vision, hearing, mobility, and dexterity to safely perform job duties
- Ability to safely push, pull, carry, and operate landscaping and maintenance equipment
