If you’re looking for a team that takes big creative swings and doesn’t settle for less than excellent, keep reading.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We’re hiring a freelance Website Developer to build, maintain, and improve websites for brands. You’ll translate approved designs and creative direction into responsive, maintainable sites; structure content so it is easy to update; and carry work through testing, launch, and handoff. This is a hands-on implementation role that combines keen visual attention to detail with sound technical judgment and dependable delivery.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

• Approved pages and features launch on time, with the design preserved across agreed devices and browsers.

• Forms, content, integrations, and key user journeys are tested; technical issues are prioritized and communicated clearly.

• Stakeholders know what is ready, blocked, or awaiting a decision without having to repeatedly chase updates.

• Sites are structured so routine content updates can be made efficiently without unnecessary developer support. Another developer can understand the implementation and its limitations.

WHO YOU ARE

• A meticulous, practical builder who cares about the finished interface as much as the implementation behind it.

• You take ownership of your work through launch, testing thoroughly and resolving issues rather than assuming someone else will catch them.

• You scope and estimate work realistically, manage agreed milestones, and flag tradeoffs before a deadline is at risk.

• You work well from creative direction, ask useful questions, and solve implementation problems without unnecessarily redesigning the brief.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build + Content Management: Implement responsive pages, reusable components, content-management structures, and scoped interactions from approved designs and content.

• Quality + Support: Test functionality, agreed accessibility requirements, and performance; investigate defects; maintain assigned sites within agreed support coverage.

• Delivery + Handoff: Recommend implementation approaches; define milestones, dependencies, and acceptance criteria; coordinate reviews and approved launches or migrations; and document content editing, integrations, and handoff steps.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

• 3+ years of relevant website-development experience, or equivalent demonstrated work. Show sites you personally implemented and explain your contribution.

• Strong hands-on ability in Webflow or Wix Studio, plus HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The approved approach is determined per assignment.

• Experience with CMS architecture, responsive design, practical testing, and clear communication across website builds and ongoing improvements.

BONUS POINTS

• Experience delivering websites for different brands.

• E-commerce, membership, or third-party integration experience.

• Technical SEO, redirects, analytics implementation, or accessible interface development.

• Experience working with designers and translating detailed layouts into maintainable sites.

TOOLS YOU’LL USE

Webflow and/or Wix Studio; HTML/CSS/JavaScript; Git where custom code requires it. Use only the platform, hosting, and integrations approved for each assignment.

Figma or equivalent design references; Asana, Slack, Dropbox, and approved collaboration tools.

THE DETAILS

• Engagement + Scope: Nonexclusive freelance contract. Start with one brand and agreed deliverables, milestones, and collaboration windows. Initial term and renewals are agreed in writing. Additional work may be agreed based on delivery, capacity, and mutual fit.

• Location: New York City or Los Angeles; remote work within those locations or an agreed hybrid arrangement. Collaboration and any in-person meetings are agreed for each engagement.

• Works with: The designated company lead and any assigned creative collaborators. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role.

• Fees: US$60–$90/hour for paid discovery, scoping, and authorized hourly support, based on experience and implementation capability. Defined builds are separately agreed fixed-fee engagements, calculated from scope and estimated hours at the agreed rate. Deliverables, milestones, payment dates, revisions, and separately approved third-party costs are set in writing before work begins; scope changes require prior agreement.

• Start: As soon as mutually agreed.

• Eligibility: You must be able to lawfully provide the agreed services from your work location.

• Apply: Submit your résumé and two relevant live-site examples through the designated application link. Briefly explain what you personally built, the platform used, and how content updates are handled. No cover letter is required.

If this role feels like a stretch in all the right ways, we’d love to hear from you. Tell us how your skills, experience, and unique point of view can level up this team and the stories we’re bringing into the world.
