Ventura Coastal is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Generalist to join our EHS team and support the implementation, execution, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs across our facilities.
This is a hands-on role that partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Project Management, Human Resources, Food Safety & Quality Systems, and other members of the EHS team to maintain regulatory compliance, identify and reduce workplace risks, and strengthen our overall safety and compliance programs.
The EHS Generalist will have a primary functional assignment in either Environmental & Health Compliance or Safety , based on departmental needs and the selected candidates experience. While the position will have a primary area of responsibility, the EHS Generalist will also develop cross-functional EHS knowledge and provide backup support across both areas.
This position reports to the EHS Manager and requires regular travel between our Visalia and Tipton facilities .
What You'll Do
Environmental & Health Compliance
Depending on your primary assignment, responsibilities may include:
- Coordinate environmental and occupational health compliance requirements, permits, regulatory reporting, inspections, compliance calendars, documentation, and agency interactions.
- Support compliance programs involving EPA, CUPA, Air District, Regional Water Board, CalARP/RMP, PSM, hazardous materials, wastewater, stormwater, SPCC, drinking water, boiler/pressure vessel requirements, and other applicable regulations.
- Maintain permits, inspection records, regulatory documentation, and required reporting and ensure compliance activities are completed on schedule.
- Coordinate environmental and occupational health audits, inspections, and assessments and track corrective actions through completion.
- Support regulatory inspections and agency interactions, including gathering documentation, coordinating responses, and completing follow-up activities.
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Project Management, FSQS, consultants, and the EHS team to address environmental and occupational health requirements.
- Support chemical inventory management, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) administration, Hazard Communication, and other occupational health programs.
- Review capital projects, equipment installations, and process changes to identify applicable environmental and occupational health requirements.
Safety
Depending on your primary assignment, responsibilities may include:
- Maintain a regular presence on the plant floor and work directly with employees, supervisors, and managers to identify hazards and reinforce safe work practices.
- Conduct facility, equipment, and work-practice inspections and observations and coordinate corrective actions.
- Provide safety coaching, guidance, and technical support to Operations and employees.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of Company safety programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives.
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver safety training and employee communications.
- Lead or support investigations involving workplace injuries, accidents, near misses, and occupational illnesses to identify root causes and appropriate corrective actions.
- Track corrective actions resulting from incidents, inspections, employee concerns, and other safety activities through completion.
- Conduct or support hazard assessments and job/task safety reviews and assist Operations with implementing appropriate controls.
- Support Emergency Response Plans, emergency preparedness activities, and drills.
- Analyze safety observations, incidents, corrective actions, and other performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with Project Management, Maintenance, and Operations to identify safety requirements associated with capital projects, new equipment, and process changes.
Physical Requirements
This position requires regular sitting, standing, and walking, with minimal climbing, lifting, and bending. The successful candidate must be able to manage changing priorities and work effectively under pressure.

Additional Qualifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and clearly communicate expectations to employees and leaders at different levels of the organization. Strong organizational and regulatory recordkeeping skills. Ability to manage changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Professional approach when working with employees, customers, visitors, vendors, regulatory agencies, and other business partners. Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel regularly between the Visalia and Tipton facilities .
Safety experience may include:
Lockout/Tagout, machine guarding, Hazard Communication, powered industrial trucks, PPE, confined space, heat illness prevention, ergonomics, or related occupational safety programs.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Cal/OSHA requirements and workplace injury reporting. OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification. Bilingual in Spanish and English. Experience working in a manufacturing or similar operational environment.
Environmental & Health Compliance experience may include:
Environmental permitting, regulatory reporting, hazardous materials, wastewater, air quality, CalARP/RMP, PSM, SPCC, stormwater, or related compliance programs.
What We're Looking For
Bachelors degree or 5+ years of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) experience required. Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental and occupational health and safety regulations. Experience implementing and administering EHS programs, including regulatory compliance, employee training, inspections, incident investigations, hazard identification, and corrective action management. Demonstrated experience or knowledge in either Environmental & Health Compliance or Safety .
Additional EHS Responsibilities
Maintain accurate EHS records, including inspections, corrective actions, training records, regulatory documentation, and performance reporting. Assist with developing and updating EHS programs, policies, procedures, SOPs, training materials, and employee communications. Provide cross-functional EHS support and backup coverage as needed. Support regulatory inspections, internal audits, emergency response activities, and incident investigations. Assist the EHS Manager and Human Resources with post-incident management and return-to-work coordination, as assigned. Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours support for environmental releases, workplace incidents, emergency response activities, regulatory matters, and other situations requiring EHS involvement. Promote and model Ventura Coastal's environmental, health, and safety expectations throughout the organization.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $71,000 - $77,000 annually
Bonus Opportunity: Performance-based annual incentive.
