Job Description
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cost Manager to lead cost planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control activities across projects and business operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project cost management, commercial controls, financial analysis, and stakeholder management, with proven experience in delivering projects within budget while maximizing value and minimizing risks.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Planning & Budget Management
- Develop and manage project budgets, cost estimates, and financial forecasts.
- Establish cost control procedures, standards, and reporting frameworks.
- Monitor project expenditures and ensure alignment with approved budgets.
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses and recommend cost optimization strategies.
Cost Control & Reporting
- Track actual costs against budget and forecast variances.
- Prepare periodic cost reports, dashboards, and performance metrics for senior management.
- Analyze trends, risks, and opportunities impacting project costs.
- Ensure timely identification and escalation of cost overruns and mitigation measures.
Contract & Commercial Management
- Review contracts, change orders, claims, and commercial implications.
- Evaluate contractor invoices, variations, and payment applications.
- Support procurement and vendor negotiations from a cost management perspective.
- Ensure compliance with contractual and financial obligations.
Forecasting & Risk Management
- Lead monthly forecasting and cash flow projections.
- Identify financial risks and develop mitigation plans.
- Support project teams in scenario analysis and decision-making processes.
- Maintain contingency planning and risk adjustment mechanisms.
Stakeholder Management
- Partner with project managers, finance teams, procurement teams, and external stakeholders.
- Present cost performance updates to leadership and clients.
- Provide commercial guidance throughout project lifecycle phases.
Process Improvement
- Drive continuous improvements in cost management methodologies and systems.
- Implement best practices, automation tools, and reporting efficiencies.
- Mentor and guide junior cost engineers/analysts.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- 10–15 years of experience in Cost Management, Project Controls, Commercial Management, or related functions.
- Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and financial reporting.
- Proven experience managing large-scale projects and complex budgets.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, ERP systems, and project management tools.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
