About your role

We are looking for a  Financial Accountant  to strengthen our Finance team and support the continued growth of Fairphone, including our expanding US operations.

In this hands-on role, you will take ownership of a broad range of recurring financial accounting and operational Finance activities. You will play an important role in our monthly and quarterly closing processes, ensuring that our financial records are accurate, complete and well reconciled.

Your responsibilities will cover both the Dutch entity and, increasingly, our US entity. You will work closely with colleagues across Finance, Procurement, Operations and other teams to resolve issues, maintain accurate financial data and ensure that recurring Finance processes run smoothly.  This is a role for someone who enjoys hands-on accounting, solving problems and taking ownership. You will have the opportunity to gradually take more responsibility for recurring Finance processes as Fairphone continues to grow.  The role reports to the Head of Finance.

What makes this role different?

This is not simply a role to divide existing Finance responsibilities. As Fairphone grows, the volume and complexity of recurring Finance activities are increasing, particularly with the expansion of our US operations.  You will therefore have an important role in building a strong operational Finance foundation. By taking ownership of recurring accounting, reconciliations and closing activities, you will create capacity for the Finance team to focus on process professionalisation, controls, reporting, data and supporting Fairphone’s growth.  Over time, there is room for you to  grow your ownership and take responsibility for additional Finance processes .

Key Responsibilities & Objectives

Financial Accounting & Close

- Prepare and execute recurring monthly and quarterly closing activities.
- Prepare accruals, prepayments and other accounting entries.
- Perform balance sheet and bank reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and follow up on outstanding items.
- Prepare and reconcile intercompany balances and transactions.
- Maintain fixed asset records and supporting schedules.
- Perform inventory reconciliations and maintain inventory movement and supporting schedules.

Tax, Audit & Reporting

- Prepare supporting information and data for VAT and other tax-related activities.
- Prepare audit PBC files, supporting documentation and evidence, and follow up on audit requests.
- Refresh recurring financial reports and perform relevant checks and validations.
- Support the preparation of recurring Finance datasets and reporting information.

ERP & Finance Data

- Handle day-to-day Finance issues in ERP and maintain relevant Finance master data.
- Perform data cleaning and validation and maintain recurring Finance datasets.
- Identify data or system inconsistencies and follow up on their resolution.

Processes & Documentation

- Document existing Finance processes and maintain clear and up-to-date process documentation.
- Contribute to a consistent and well-organised way of working across recurring Finance activities.

Your Skills & Experience

We are looking for a finance professional who is  hands-on, structured and reliable , with a solid foundation in financial accounting and a willingness to take ownership of recurring Finance activities.

You have:

- A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field.
- 2–4 years of relevant experience  in financial accounting, accounting operations, audit or a similar role.
- A solid understanding of financial accounting principles and experience supporting monthly and quarterly closing processes.
- Hands-on experience with  balance sheet and bank reconciliations, accruals, prepayments and journal entries .
- Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to working with financial data.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate discrepancies and follow through to resolution.
- Good Excel skills and confidence working with accounting data and recurring reports.
- Experience working with an ERP system;  Odoo experience is a plus .
- The ability to work independently, prioritise recurring activities and meet closing deadlines.
- A proactive mindset and a strong sense of ownership: you don't just identify an issue, you follow it through to resolution.
- Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal, and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across Finance and other teams.
- An interest in  sustainability, technology and Fairphone’s mission .
- A willingness to learn and gradually take on broader responsibility as Fairphone and the Finance function grow.
