About this role

Company Description

Te Tākinatanga | Our Story

At Contact, we believe home is the most important place in the world. That belief shapes everything we do, from leading the energy transition to how we power Aotearoa and care for our people and communities.

We’re a power, broadband, and mobile company, but we’re also investing boldly in renewable energy and smarter, more connected ways of working (mahi). Our ambition is simple: to leave Aotearoa better than we found it.

Guided by our values & behaviours, we’re a team who care deeply about the work we do, how we support one another, and the impact we have. Simply put, we touch lives to make life better.

Within Contact, our Trading teams help make some of the most important decisions we make as a business. Working at the intersection of markets, strategy, technology and generation, they navigate an increasingly complex energy landscape to ensure Contact is well positioned for the future.

This Product Owner opportunity sits within Market Strategy space, where data, models, forecasts and insights help inform some of our most important decisions. You’ll work alongside people with deep market and technical expertise, bringing the product leadership that connects business outcomes to technology investment. You’ll help shape a clear product vision, set priorities and ensure we’re investing in the things that create the most value.

If you enjoy solving complex problems, working alongside experts who are passionate about what they do, and turning great ideas into products that genuinely help people make better decisions, you'll find plenty to get excited about here.

Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

Strong data and models create value when people trust them, understand what they are telling them and use them to make better decisions. As Product Owner, you’ll lead the vision, roadmap and priorities for a portfolio of products that support some of Contact’s most important Trading decisions.

Working within the Market Strategy space, you’ll develop a deep understanding of the decisions our users make, the information they rely on and the outcomes they need. You’ll partner closely with data, modelling, engineering and market specialists to turn that understanding into clear product direction and priorities. You’ll be comfortable engaging with technical detail while keeping the focus on the problem to solve, the value to create and the outcomes we’re trying to achieve.

You’ll work across Trading, Finance, Risk, Generation and Technology, as well as with other Product Owners across Trading. Your stakeholders know their fields deeply, so you’ll need to ask thoughtful questions, navigate competing perspectives and make clear trade-offs. Success will mean a clear and evolving product vision, a roadmap that supports meaningful decisions about where to invest, and products that are trusted, adopted and demonstrably improve decision-making

Qualifications

Ko wai koe | About You

We’re looking for someone with genuine product ownership or product management depth. You can create a product vision, work from outcomes back to priorities, and hold the problem space long enough to understand what is really needed before moving into solution mode.

- You’ve shaped and managed product roadmaps and backlogs in a complex environment.
- You can translate business decisions and information needs into clear product direction.
- You communicate crisply with both business and technical people, flexing the level of detail without losing the point.
- You can bring stakeholders together, work through competing perspectives and keep attention on value and outcomes.
- You’re curious about data, analytics and modelling, and willing to build your knowledge of the energy market.

Experience in data, analytics or the energy market would be useful, but it is not the main event. The team already has deep technical and market expertise and is willing to invest in helping the right product person learn the domain. You won’t need to have done everything already.
