About the Role
Reporting to the Team Leader, Mainframe Core Systems, you will provide senior technical leadership across IBM MQ environments on z/OS, working closely with infrastructure, operations, development and support teams. You'll be responsible for delivering highly available, secure and performant MQ services while driving continuous improvement and mentoring junior team members.

What will your day look like?
As an MQ Systems Programmer, you will:
- Provide technical leadership across MQ installation, configuration, performance tuning, monitoring and support activities.
- Install, upgrade and maintain IBM MQ environments on z/OS using SMP/E.
- Administer MQ Queue Managers, clusters and queue sharing groups, ensuring optimal availability and performance.
- Partner with development, operations and infrastructure teams to implement new MQ solutions and enhancements.
- Monitor system performance, capacity and availability, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Troubleshoot complex incidents, perform root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions.
- Contribute to disaster recovery planning and testing activities to ensure platform resilience.
- Maintain security and compliance standards, including RACF/SAF integration.
- Provide mentoring and technical guidance to less experienced team members.
- Participate in an on-call roster to support critical business services.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:
- Extensive experience in IBM MQ Systems Programming within large enterprise z/OS environments.
- Strong expertise in MQ architecture, installation, performance tuning, monitoring and capacity planning.
- Solid understanding of IBM z/OS operating systems and mainframe technologies.
- Experience administering MQ Queue Managers, clusters and queue sharing groups.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated customer focus and commitment to delivering reliable technology services.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent industry experience.
Desirable experience:
- Db2 and/or IMS Systems Programming.
- Assembler programming skills.
- Experience with SMP/E.
- Knowledge of broader enterprise technology services, networking and storage platforms.
- Exposure to project delivery methodologies and practices.
