This role supports one of New Zealand’s most significant and technically complex vertical infrastructure developments. The project is a large-scale, secure operational facility being delivered through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) and joint venture model, bringing together some of the country’s most experienced construction, engineering and service delivery organisations.
Designed to operate around the clock once complete, the facility incorporates high-security environments, complex building systems, and long-term asset management requirements. About the Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Accountant to support the delivery of this nationally significant infrastructure project.
This role is critical in providing financial and accounting support across the project, ensuring accurate financial management, reporting, forecasting and compliance with project, joint venture, statutory and corporate requirements. You will work closely with finance, commercial and operational teams to support effective cost control, cash flow management and financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.

Project Accountant
Reporting to the AFC Director , the Project Accountant is responsible for supporting project financial and accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial records, reporting and forecasting in accordance with project requirements and company policies.
You will play a key role in monitoring costs, commitments and accruals, supporting joint venture reporting, managing financial reconciliations and providing timely financial analysis to support project decision-making and commercial outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage project financial and accounting activities in accordance with applicable accounting standards, project requirements and company policies
- Ensure project financial records accurately reflect costs, commitments, assets, liabilities and project performance
- Prepare and maintain monthly financial reports, reconciliations and management reporting requirements
- Coordinate project forecasting, budgeting and cash flow reporting activities
- Monitor project costs, commitments and accruals to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Support the preparation, review and submission of joint venture reporting requirements
- Ensure client invoicing is completed accurately and in accordance with contractual terms and project milestones
- Monitor receivables and support cash collection activities
- Ensure supplier invoices are processed and paid in accordance with approved terms and delegation authorities
- Review and reconcile project profit and loss and balance sheet accounts
- Support project month-end and year-end accounting processes
- Monitor labour costing allocations and ensure costs are accurately recorded against project cost codes
- Support subcontractor payment processes in accordance with approved assessments and contractual requirements
- Assist with identifying, monitoring and reporting project financial risks and opportunities
- Provide financial analysis to support project decision-making and commercial outcomes
- Maintain compliance with taxation, audit, statutory and reporting obligations
- Liaise with project teams, JV partners and corporate finance stakeholders
- Support continuous improvement across project finance, reporting and financial management processes

About You
You are a proactive and commercially minded accounting professional with strong analytical skills and a collaborative approach to delivering outcomes in a complex project environment.
You bring:
- Experience in project accounting, commercial finance or construction/project finance environments
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting and cost control
- Confidence working closely with operational, commercial and finance stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with excellent attention to detail
- A structured, process-driven approach with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across project teams

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting, Finance or equivalent qualification
- CA, CPA or equivalent professional membership, or working towards, preferred
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in project accounting, commercial finance or construction/project finance environments
- Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure, engineering or construction projects preferred
- Strong understanding of forecasting, budgeting, cost control and cash flow management
- Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, Pronto or similar financial systems
- Strong understanding of accounting standards and financial reporting requirements
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with operational and commercial teams
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
- Experience within joint venture project environments would be advantageous
