Job Description
As National Head of Graphics, you will lead a story-centric, national graphic design function delivering high-quality visual content across linear broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms. Based in Sydney and reporting to the Director, National Newsrooms, you will drive workflow automation and a template-first strategy, positioning graphic design as a core enabler of Nine's Future News transformation. This key executive role unites creative design, enterprise technology, and commercial management to keep Nine at the forefront of Australian visual journalism.
Day to day you will:
- Drive the national strategic roadmap for an integrated graphics function across linear, streaming, and digital formats.
- Champion a scalable, template-first design framework and automated self-service workflows to streamline daily production.
- Oversee departmental budgets, commercial operations, third-party technology contracts, and resource allocations.
- Direct the high-impact visual design and execution for major network events, special broadcasts, long-form journalism, and sport.
- Partner with senior editorial, news, and commercial leaders to align visual design output with broader network goals.
- Lead, mentor, and uplift a multi-disciplinary national design team, fostering a high-performance culture grounded in craft excellence.
- Guide change management initiatives across distributed newsrooms to seamlessly integrate modern design technologies.
What you'll bring:
- Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and scaling high-performing, distributed design or production teams within a complex organisation.
- Proven commercial acumen managing departmental budgets, vendor relationships, and technology contracts in partnership with IT.
- Deep technical authority in broadcast and digital graphics systems, motion design, and multi-platform automation architectures.
- Proven track record of leading workflow transformation, capability development, and positive cultural shifts.
- Exceptional diplomacy and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build trust across executive editorial and commercial teams.
- Tertiary qualifications in Graphic Design, Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent practical industry experience).
