General Purpose

The department of Student Experience is committed to supporting all students at the University of Guelph. Reporting to the Neighbourhood Relations & Off-Campus Living Advisor, the Coordinator, Off-Campus Student Engagement is responsible for developing, coordinating, and evaluating programs and services that support the transition and experience of off-campus and commuter students at the University of Guelph. Through programming, outreach, and advising, the Coordinator helps students navigate off-campus living, connect with campus resources, and become active members of both the university and local community.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Coordinator develops and delivers programs, events, workshops, and resources, both in-person and online, that support off-campus and commuter students throughout their university experience, with particular emphasis on transition programming, community development, and student engagement. The incumbent provides individual and group support to students seeking guidance related to off-campus living, including housing searches, landlord-tenant relations, tenant rights and responsibilities, and community standards.

Working collaboratively with campus departments, student groups, and community stakeholders, the Coordinator develops initiatives that promote awareness, education, and responsible community membership. The Coordinator acts as a resource and advocate for off-campus students, identifying barriers to participation and facilitating access to services and supports across the institution.

The Coordinator is responsible for program administration, including project planning, assessment, reporting, and strategic planning. The role collects and analyzes program data, evaluates outcomes, and makes recommendations to enhance services and address emerging student needs.

The Coordinator recruits, trains, and supervises student staff and Peer Helpers who support the delivery of programs and services. This includes providing ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and developmental opportunities to foster leadership and student learning.

Requirements

- Undergraduate degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Social Sciences, Community Development, Education, or a related field.

- Minimum three years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs, student engagement, community programming, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Demonstrated commitment to Indigenization, equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism.

- Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating programs and initiatives for diverse student populations.

- Experience recruiting, training, supervising, and coaching student staff and volunteers.

- Knowledge of student development theory and best practices in student engagement and community building.

- Experience building collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

- Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to support program evaluation and decision-making.

- Strong project management, organizational, and budget administration skills.

- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, manage competing priorities, and respond effectively to complex situations.

- Excellent communication, facilitation, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.

- Knowledge of residential tenancy issues, landlord-tenant relations, and off-campus living considerations is considered an asset.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and related technologies.

- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support programs and events.

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
