Resource Manager

The Resource Manager plays a central role in the smooth operation of NxGen, acting as the connective tissue between production, artists, resource planning, and studio operations. This role combines talent coordination, operational oversight, resource management, and light production support, ensuring the right people are in place at the right time and have seamless access to the tools, systems, infrastructure, and support they need to do their best work.

Working closely with the Executive Producer, Producers, Resource Management, and Technology, teams, you will maintain visibility across current and upcoming projects, support staffing strategies, and help ensure both in-house and freelance talent are onboarded efficiently and fully set up for success. This includes helping coordinate access to software licences, hardware, cloud-based infrastructure, storage, rendering resources, and wider studio systems, contributing to the efficient day-to-day running of an AI-first hybrid creative studio.

What you’ll do:

Talent & Resource Management

- Manage bookings for external freelance artists, ensuring availability is accurately tracked and consistently updated within resource management systems.
- Helping to build and maintain a strong, diverse external talent pool across disciplines (VFX, compositing, AI-assisted workflows).
- Build and nurture relationships with both current and prospective freelancers to ensure strong alignment and best-fit talent for each project.
- Maintain a clear overview of all current and upcoming projects to anticipate future staffing needs and identify potential resourcing gaps.
- Track team capacity, utilization, and upcoming absences, proactively flagging scheduling conflicts or talent shortages.

Freelancer Onboarding & Communication

- Partner with Resource Management and Production teams to onboard freelance artists efficiently, ensuring a seamless start.
- Monitor onboarding progress and maintain clear communication with freelancers, Production, and the EP regarding status updates.
- Act as a primary point of contact for freelancers, supporting engagement and ensuring alignment with studio processes.

Operational Support & Oversight

- Act as a key liaison between artists, production, resource management, and technical/support teams, helping ensure staff and freelance artists have timely access to the hardware, software, licences, cloud infrastructure, storage, and systems required to deliver their work.
- Oversee and coordinate the resolution of hardware, software, access, and technical issues, ensuring blockers are logged, escalated, and followed through to resolution.
- Support the efficient movement and management of project files and assets across on-premises and cloud-based systems, working with technical and production teams to ensure content remains accessible, organised, and secure.
- Coordinate operational requirements for cloud-based resources, including additional AWS rendering capacity, helping manage access, scaling requirements, cost estimates, and associated staffing needs.
- Maintain a strong understanding of NxGen’s technical infrastructure and operational setup, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, streamline workflows, and future-proof the studio’s hardware, software, licensing, and cloud requirements as the business evolves.

What you’ll bring:

- Proven experience in talent management, resource coordination, or production within VFX, animation, post-production, or a creative studio environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- Familiarity with production tracking tools (e.g., ShotGrid) and resource management systems.
- An established network or “little black book” of freelance artist talent across VFX, compositing, motion, and emerging AI-driven creative disciplines, with the ability to help grow and strengthen the studio’s external talent pool.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively between creative, technical, and production teams.
- A proactive mindset with strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- A genuine interest in the operational side of a creative studio, with a passion for understanding infrastructure, systems, deployment, and how technology can be effectively implemented to support artists and production.
- A continuous improvement mindset, with an ability to identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and help future-proof the studio’s operational and technical setup.
- Understanding of VFX/CG pipelines and emerging AI-driven workflows is highly desirable.
- Experience working with cloud-based systems and distributed teams is a plus.

How you’ll work:

We've adopted a hybrid working approach to give more flexibility on where and how we work.

The hybrid working expectations for this role are  3 days  in the Osterley office per week.
