Purpose of Role: As Marine New Ventures Director, you will lead The Crown Estate’s efforts to identify, develop and commercialise new opportunities that create long-term value from the seabed and lead the commercial proposition for the Marine Delivery Routemap. Working across sectors and specialist teams, you will shape new ventures, products, and market opportunities that align with The Crown Estate’s strategic objectives and support sustainable growth.

In this role, you will develop and deliver Marine’s innovation and new venture development strategy, building a coherent pipeline of opportunities from concept through to implementation. You will work with sector, technical and digital teams to identify, assess and commercialise new opportunities and products, develop innovation leasing approaches and identify intellectual property and business models that create strategic, environmental and commercial value.

You will also play a key role in informing Marine’s investment strategy, developing market insight, horizon scanning emerging opportunities, and ensuring that promising ventures are prioritised, matured and progressed through the Marine Delivery Routemap and Strategic Delivery Plan.

Main accountabilities:

- Develop and implement a business development and innovation plan that supports market creation, business scale-up, and technology leadership
- Identify, evaluate and develop emerging opportunities, technologies and market propositions that could create future value from The Crown Estate’s Marine portfolio, including new sectors, business models, products and strategic partnerships
- Sponsor and shape new leasing opportunities for marine innovation, creating proportionate routes to seabed access that support testing, demonstration and commercial scale-up
- Identify, develop, and commercialise TCE’s marine IP from Marine Delivery Routemap, creating new revenue streams, working with colleagues in Planning & Technical and Digital
- Use the Marine Delivery Routemap to identify, develop and prioritise commercial and investment opportunities for Marine, maintaining a coherent, strategically aligned pipeline of investable and deliverable propositions. This role leads the front-end opportunity thinking, working with sector and delivery teams to shape propositions before they move into delivery
- Act as the focal point for coordinating new venture opportunities across Marine, connecting sector insight, innovation activity, investment priorities and delivery planning to maximise value and avoid duplication
- Collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure alignment and avoid duplication with other strategic or operational roles

Most important skills based requirements:

- Demonstrated experience in business development, venture development, innovation or market creation
- Strong understanding of marine sectors, infrastructure, technology and policy development
- Proven track record of developing and commercialising new opportunities, products or services
- Experience building strategic partnerships and developing complex propositions involving multiple stakeholders
- Proven ability to identify and assess emerging market opportunities
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling impactful engagement
- Experience developing investment cases and progressing opportunities from concept to implementation
