Position Summary:

The Project Engineer serves as the primary technical and project management conduit between Graham and customer teams, ensuring effective communication, specification compliance, and schedule execution. Responsible for leading custom-engineered equipment projects from contract award through shop fabrication and delivery, this role manages technical submittals, resolves design inquiries, and aligns cross-functional internal teams, including design engineering, quality, procurement, weld engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing, with customer requirements. Success in this role requires a balance of engineering judgment, project coordination, and strong customer-facing skills to protect project scope, quality, and delivery milestones.

Key Results Areas by Level of Work

Level II: Service – Coordinating “production” with problem solving and prevention

Resource Management – Coordinate material and people

- Serve as the primary technical and project management conduit between Graham and customer teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate with design engineering, quality, procurement, weld engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and other internal stakeholders to ensure customer requirements are effectively communicated and addressed.
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with internal and external stakeholders to support successful project execution.
- Resolve design inquiries and technical issues by coordinating appropriate internal resources and developing effective solutions.

Resource Scheduling, Output Management and Reporting

- Lead custom-engineered equipment projects from contract award through shop fabrication and delivery.
- Manage project schedules and coordinate activities to support established delivery milestones.
- Manage technical submittals and ensure required project documentation is completed accurately and in accordance with customer requirements.
- Monitor project progress and communicate project status, technical issues, and potential schedule impacts to appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure project activities remain aligned with contractual requirements, customer specifications, project scope, quality expectations, and delivery milestones.

Continuous Improvement

- Identify and address project issues through effective problem solving and engineering judgment.
- Analyze problems, collect relevant data, establish facts, and develop effective solutions.
- Identify opportunities to prevent recurring technical or project-related issues through effective communication, coordination, and problem solving.
- Apply lessons learned and project experience to improve project execution and customer satisfaction.

Equipment & Process Maintenance

- Ensure engineering and project requirements are effectively communicated through the manufacturing process to support successful fabrication and delivery of custom-engineered equipment.
- Review and interpret applicable customer specifications, industry standards, and manufacturing code requirements to support project execution.
- Support resolution of technical and design inquiries that arise during fabrication and manufacturing.
- Utilize sound engineering judgment to ensure technical requirements are appropriately addressed throughout the project lifecycle.

Professional Development (self and reports)

- Maintain and develop technical knowledge related to engineering practices, customer requirements, applicable industry standards, and manufacturing processes.
- Continue to develop engineering, project management, technical writing, and customer relationship skills.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable engineering tools, software, specifications, procedures, and processes.
- Demonstrate accountability for meeting project commitments and established deadlines.

Requirements

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience, and abilities required.

Education and Training

- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience

- All levels of experience will be considered.

Preferred Experience

- Military Standard (MIL-STD) specifications.
- NAVSEA Technical Publications.
- Performing engineering calculations.
- Drawing creation.
- Technical writing.
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Specification, procedure, and/or work instruction writing.
- MATLAB and/or Mathcad.
- ANSYS (Structural and/or Fluent).
- American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler Pressure Vessel Code (ASME BPVC) specifications.
- American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) specifications.
- Heat transfer industry experience.
- Shipbuilding industry experience.
- Machining.
- Welding.
- Destructive testing (Tensile/Shear/Charpy/etc.).
- Non-destructive testing (PT/UT/MT/RT).
- Experience quoting new and/or repeat work.
- Customer interfacing.
- Vendor interfacing.
- Project management.

Other

- Must be willing to work overtime as required.
- Minimal travel may be required, both domestic and internationally.

Salary Description
$68,000-$115,000
