# Job Description Summary
As an Architect – Mechanical Design, you will provide technical leadership for the design and development of mechanical systems, subsystems, and components for GE HealthCare products. This role goes beyond individual design execution and requires an experienced mechanical engineering leader who can solve complex technical problems, mentor engineers, develop robust design methodologies, and influence product and technology direction.

You will work across the product development lifecycle, from concept and architecture through detailed design, verification, manufacturing introduction, and product support. You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, suppliers, and other technical teams to develop innovative solutions that meet performance, reliability, cost, manufacturability, and business requirements.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

- Provide technical leadership for mechanical design and product development activities, guiding engineering teams through complex technical decisions and design challenges.
- Lead the conceptualization, architecture, design, and development of mechanical components, subsystems, and solutions for new product development and product improvement programs.
- Drive mechanical engineering activities across the NPI lifecycle, including concept development, architecture, detailed design, prototyping, verification, supplier interfaces, manufacturing introduction, and product support.
- Apply strong mechanical engineering fundamentals to engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, material selection, design calculations, and manufacturing process selection.
- Lead technical and design reviews, identify technical risks, evaluate design alternatives, and drive engineering solutions to closure.
- Develop test and verification strategies and ensure mechanical designs meet defined performance, reliability, quality, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
- Mentor and technically guide engineers, strengthening mechanical design capability and engineering problem-solving across the team.
- Develop and improve mechanical design methodologies, engineering practices, and technical approaches that can be applied across products and programs.
- Partner with technical leaders and cross-functional teams to ensure engineering deliverables support broader product and program objectives.
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, industry trends, product strategies, and future technology opportunities, and help translate them into mechanical engineering roadmaps and investment priorities.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, suppliers, and other engineering functions to ensure designs can be successfully industrialized and supported.
- Work with suppliers and engineering partners to resolve technical issues and ensure component and subsystem requirements are achieved.
- Develop innovative mechanical solutions that balance performance, reliability, cost, serviceability, and manufacturability.
- Contribute to the selection and application of appropriate materials and manufacturing processes, including plastics/polymers, metalworking, castings, injection molding, joining, and surface treatments, as applicable.
- Identify opportunities to leverage common technologies, design platforms, and strategic sourcing initiatives across product development programs.

Required Qualifications

- Master's degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tool Design, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
- At least 5 years of hands-on core product design and product development experience .
- Strong experience working in New Product Introduction (NPI), new product development, and/or R&D environments .
- Demonstrated experience owning mechanical design activities across multiple stages of the product development lifecycle.
- Demonstrated technical leadership experience , including leading complex engineering problem-solving, guiding technical decisions, and mentoring engineers.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including mechanical design, engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, material selection, design calculations, and design verification.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering and product development teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts and decisions effectively.

Desired Characteristics

- Experience working within a product development organization with ownership of product and technical design decisions.
- Experience defining product architecture, mechanical design methodologies, technical roadmaps, or future technology direction.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as metalworking, castings, injection molding, joining processes, and surface coatings.
- Knowledge of engineering-grade plastics/polymers and associated design and manufacturing considerations.
- Experience working with suppliers and manufacturing teams to transition designs from development into production.
- Ability to balance technical performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and delivery requirements when making engineering decisions.
- Experience collaborating with global engineering and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to operate effectively in technically complex programs while providing direction and mentorship to other engineers.
