JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Technical Operations Manager (TFM) of PracticePoint is responsible for the proper functioning of all aspects of the facility and for technical innovation, enabling the fulfillment of its mission of supporting research and development across the breadth of medical technology. The TFM will also serve as the Director of the Medical Engineering and Imaging Core (MEIC), a core facility that supports WPI faculty and students in efficiently using the equipment in PracticePoint. The TFM will work closely with the PracticePoint Director and staff to ensure that the facilities are equipped and operating for sustainable success, with appropriate plans for maintenance and upgrades. The TFM will participate, as appropriate, in the research and development work carried out in the facility as well as in outreach and identification of new members and facility users. The TFM must be qualified, or become qualified, to operate the MRI machine, fluoroscope, surgical lasers, and other sophisticated and potentially hazardous equipment. The TFM is responsible for the overall safe operation of the facility.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:

- Manage MEIC operations. Work with faculty and students on facility use scheduling, technical support, financial arrangements (billing and invoicing), and facility equipment maintenance.
- Research potential members, conduct technically oriented facility tours, and plan clients' use of the facilities. Work with members, potential members, and other users to obtain maximum effectiveness from use of the facilities. This requires in-depth knowledge of the capabilities of the equipment as well as knowledge of the healthcare areas being studied.
- Participate in PracticePoint dry and wet lab events, including pre-lab setup and preparation, intra-lab support, and post-lab cleaning and follow-up.
- Work with the Director of PracticePoint, PracticePoint staff, and PracticePoint-affiliated faculty to conduct research on novel medical technologies in robotics, AI, imaging, and materials.
- Maintain oversight of the facilities with regard to maintenance and upgrades so that the facility continues to meet the needs of WPI researchers and external members.
- Obtain and maintain appropriate training credentials and approvals for operation of all PracticePoint equipment, including the MRI, fluoroscope, lasers, and machine shops, together with appropriate credentials for training other users and operators.
- Oversee the delivery and use of all hazardous materials, and maintain currency with safety standards and regulatory requirements for all aspects of the facility. Maintain close coordination with the Environmental Health and Safety Office as well as relevant committees, including the IRB, IBC, and IACUC.
- Have and oversee access to all areas of the facility, based on either card or physical key access. Oversee, with the Business Manager, facility scheduling and charge rates for internal and external users.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

- Master's or PhD degree in Biomedical or Medical Robotics Engineering or a closely related area such as Biophysics or Life Science required. PhD preferred.
- Two or more years of hands-on experience with medical imaging equipment operations (MRI, C-arm, ultrasound, etc.).
- Previous research experience in Biomedical or Medical Robotics areas preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office, databases, and information systems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently to accomplish the position requirements, while also being effective as part of the PracticePoint team.
- Strong creativity and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and plan execution.

Salary Grade 8: $71,800 – $90,474 per year (depending on experience)

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
