Founded in 2022, and with 1200+ employees and counting, Aira is driving the clean energy revolution by providing homes with modern clean energy-tech solutions such as solar power, battery storage solutions and heat pumps. With a state-of-the-art production facility in Poland, and HQ in Stockholm, Sweden, and hubs across the UK, Germany and Italy, Aira is well on track to install clean energy-tech into 5 million homes by 2034.

About the role:

Join Team Cloud as a Senior Cloud Engineer. You will help build and run the shared cloud platform that every development team at Aira depends on, and make it easier for them to ship secure and reliable software.

We run a deliberately thin platform. Teams at Aira are autonomous and own their own systems, so our job is to make the good path the easy one rather than to run infrastructure on anyone's behalf. That makes the work as much about understanding what teams actually need, and knowing how to get something adopted across the organisation, as about building it. It is a small team with a large surface, so you will need to own your work end to end.

What you’ll be doing:

- The cloud platform itself: the networking, identity and security foundations that everything at Aira runs on, built once and built well, so that teams inherit them instead of assembling their own.

- CI/CD (GitHub Actions) as a product: our pipelines are becoming the place where quality is enforced — vulnerability scanning, secure infrastructure, and static code analysis as we grow.

- The operational platform: Kubernetes, Kafka and observability, run as an offering rather than as a set of servers.

- The rest of the offering: cloud and developer access, the internal tools and services we host, and the on- and offboarding around them.

- Shaping the plan: we have a roadmap, and you will be part of refining it and working out what matters next.

What you’ll bring to the role:

- AWS and Terraform. You have built production infrastructure with them, and been responsible for it when it broke.

- Several years of building and operating systems other people depend on.

- Pragmatism. You take security and correctness seriously, and you can tell when taking them further would cost more than it is worth.

- Independence, and the instinct to involve others. You do not need step-by-step direction, and when a decision needs several people you get them together.

- Thoughtful use of AI. We expect you to use it, and to be able to say where it helped you, where it failed you, and what you did about it.

- Communication. You can explain a technical decision to someone who does not share your background, in writing and in conversation. Most of your colleagues are not native English speakers.

- Opinions, and the willingness to change them. Tell us when you think we are wrong, and get behind a decision once it has been made.

- A degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or similar — or the experience to stand in its place. What we are really after is the reasoning ability that comes with it.

- Cloud and infrastructure

- Kubernetes and Kafka – we used the managed versions AWS EKS, AWS MSK.

- CDK Terrain, the community continuation of CDKTF, which is how we write much of our infrastructure.

- Observability tooling and alerting – Prometheus, Grafana and CloudWatch.

- Administering Google Cloud (and Azure) alongside AWS.

- Delivery and developer tooling

- GitHub and GitHub Actions.

- Vulnerability, dependency and container scanning.

- Static code analysis tools.

- Languages and everyday tools

- Java is the most prominent language among our development teams. TypeScript, Kotlin, Go, Rust and Flutter are all in use as well.

- Fluency with the standard Unix command-line tools and a terminal editor.
