BloombergNEF Hydrogen Analyst ( 7 Months Contract)

Description & Requirements BloombergNEF (BNEF) is seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to join our hydrogen team in London for a 7-month contract. The role will focus on hydrogen project data and research, while contributing to flagship products including our hydrogen supply forecasts and market outlooks. BNEF is a strategic research provider covering global commodity markets and the disruptive technologies driving the transition to a low-carbon economy. Our team: You will be based in our London offices, working as part of a global research team at BloombergNEF (BNEF) – the world's leading independent provider of analysis, tools, data and research to decision makers leading change in the energy system. Our data-driven research helps clients stay on top of developments across the energy sector, supported by the unique depth and breadth of the Bloomberg Terminal and bnef.com platforms. BNEF’s hydrogen team tracks technology costs, project development, policy, subsidies and offtake across the global hydrogen sector. We analyze how policy affects the economics and demand for clean hydrogen, which projects are progressing toward commercial operation, and which sectors are emerging as key sources of demand. We also forecast clean hydrogen supply, demand and costs over time. To succeed at BNEF, you should be comfortable working independently, taking initiative and developing your own viewpoints while collaborating closely with colleagues. The role: You will join the hydrogen team as a contractor for seven months, with responsibility for supporting and managing our hydrogen project, policy and subsidy datasets and contributing to flagship research products such as our hydrogen supply forecasts and market outlooks. You will conduct independent research into hydrogen projects, markets and policies and produce analysis of publishable quality. You will also use digital tools to automate and streamline data collection and management. You will collaborate professionally with colleagues and clients across different countries and cultures, both in person and remotely, and develop an internal and external network of industry contacts to collect market intelligence. We will trust you to: Support the maintenance and development of our datasets covering hydrogen projects, subsidies and policies Research, analyze and write about the latest developments in the hydrogen sector, with a particular focus on Europe Contribute to regular team publications, including market outlooks, supply forecasts and manufacturer surveys Identify opportunities to automate and improve data collection, analysis and workflow processes Communicate our research to clients and respond to client questions and requests through email and meetings You'll need to have: Intellectual curiosity and a demonstrated interest in clean hydrogen, green fuels and their role in the energy transition Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint Strong critical-thinking skills, including the ability to identify patterns in large amounts of information, assess industry claims and form well-reasoned views Strong time-management skills, initiative and a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Strong written and verbal communication skills We would love to see: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, chemistry, energy economics, public policy or a related discipline Experience working with Python, complex Excel models or client-facing analytical tools Experience using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude to develop or automate workflows Prior experience working in or analyzing emerging technologies, energy markets or energy policy, including through internships, academic research or previous employment If indicated, please note that years of experience are a guide; we will consider applications from all candidates who can demonstrate the skills necessary for the role.
