Process Engineer

Job Description This Process Engineer role focuses on leading and optimizing process engineering efforts across ceramic powder production, engineered coatings, machining operations, and new product development. You will drive operational excellence in safety, quality, productivity, cost reduction, and on-time delivery while serving as a key technical resource on the manufacturing floor. The position requires expertise in mechanical engineering, process improvement, and data-driven decision-making to enhance process reliability and support long-term business growth. Responsibilities Include

- Lead process engineering initiatives across ceramic powder, engineered coatings, machining, and new product development to ensure robust, repeatable, and efficient manufacturing processes.
- Drive operational excellence by improving safety performance, product quality, productivity, cost reduction, and on-time delivery across all assigned processes.
- Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing processes, standard operating procedures (SOPs), control plans, statistical process control (SPC) charts, critical-to-quality (CTQ) parameters, and production documentation.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing and Lean Six Sigma methodologies to improve efficiency, reduce lead times, minimize waste, and increase process reliability.
- Lead root cause analysis and root cause failure analysis to identify issues, implement corrective and preventive actions, and sustain improvements.
- Analyze production and process data to identify trends, monitor key process variables, and drive data-based decisions that improve performance and reduce costs.
- Create and interpret control charts, monitor quality metrics, and identify out-of-control conditions to reduce scrap, defects, and process variation.
- Manage capital projects from concept through implementation, including planning, budgeting, coordinating internal and external resources, and ensuring successful equipment and process start-up.
- Manage vendor relationships related to equipment, tooling, and process improvements to support manufacturing and new product introduction.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) teams to ensure process stability, regulatory compliance, and safe operations.
- Support customer issue resolution by investigating problems, implementing corrective actions, and participating in product certification and quality assurance activities.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to colleagues and production personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
- Lead and support continuous improvement projects focused on productivity, quality, and cost, demonstrating a consistent track record of measurable results.
- Work hands-on in the plant with operators to oversee processes, troubleshoot issues, and ensure adherence to established procedures and quality standards.

Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of process or manufacturing engineering experience.
- Previous exposure to machining operations and processes.
- Strong experience in process engineering and manufacturing engineering within a production environment.
- Practical experience with Lean Manufacturing and Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with continuous improvement initiatives in manufacturing settings.
- Proficiency in Statistical Process Control (SPC), including creating and interpreting control charts.
- Experience monitoring key process variables and quality metrics to control and improve processes.
- Knowledge of process controls, repeatability, and methods to reduce scrap, defects, and variation.
- Experience conducting root cause analysis and root cause failure analysis and implementing corrective actions.
- Ability to analyze production data to identify trends and drive data-based decisions.
- Strong collaboration skills with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and EHS teams.
- Ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship in a manufacturing environment.
- Comfort working in a highly hands-on, plant-based role with daily interaction with operators.

This is a Contract position based out of Strongsville, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $56.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
