About this opportunity:

We are looking for a talented and motivated Master's student to conduct a thesis at Ericsson Research on the use of 3D spatial modelling, game-engine technologies, and AI for large-scale network simulations.

The thesis will investigate how realistic movement patterns can be generated in urban environments and how AI-assisted techniques can improve the visualisation of scientific and network-simulation data. The scope is flexible and can focus on large-scale movement-path generation, AI-assisted visualisation, or a combination of both.

This interdisciplinary project combines AI tools, 3D spatial modelling, game engines, urban mobility, and wireless network simulations. It offers the opportunity to contribute to future research and product development in an innovative area.

What you will do:

- Investigate methods for generating realistic movement paths for different user types in urban scenarios.
- Explore pedestrian movement beyond road-network-constrained paths, including large crowds and open urban spaces.
- Study the performance and scalability of realistic movement generation for large numbers of users.
- Use 3D environments and game-engine technologies to create, visualise, or support urban mobility simulations.
- Investigate how current AI tools can assist with visualising scientific and network-simulation data.
- Develop demonstrations to evaluate the proposed approaches.
- Analyse and document results, limitations, and recommendations for future simulation development.

The skills you bring:

- You are enrolled in a Master's programme in Computer Science, Data Science, Media Technology, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- You have strong programming skills, especially in Python.
- You have a basic understanding of algorithms, data structures, and data analysis.
- You have strong problem-solving and scientific writing skills.
- You have good communication and collaboration skills.

The following are considered a plus:

- Interest in data visualisation, wireless network simulations, urban mobility, computer graphics, and artificial intelligence.
- Familiarity with urban mobility models, traffic or pedestrian simulation, or geographic information systems.
- Experience with game engines or 3D frameworks.
- Previous experience with research projects or simulation studies.
