Quantity Surveyor – job advert

About the Role

We are looking for a commercially aware and driven Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team. This role offers the opportunity to work on refurbishment contracts within the social housing sector, with strong potential for career progression and development.

You will play a key role in managing the commercial aspects of projects, including assessing and billing client work using NHF or bespoke Schedules of Rates. A big part of the role will be converting Work in Progress (WIP) into invoices while ensuring value and profitability are maximised across your contracts.

The role is based in Hemel Hempstead, with the occasional trips to site as and when required.

Key Responsibilities

- Support the Commercial Manager and project teams to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the required standards
- Manage and control the commercial performance of projects to maximise value and profitability
- Prepare and submit monthly applications for payment
- Carry out accurate forecasting and cost control
- Take ownership of commercial reporting, including Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs)
- Ensure compliance with contract requirements, including JCT, NEC, and client specifications
- Attend client meetings to review requirements, pricing, and project feasibility
- Produce and present monthly commercial reports and contribute to WIP review meetings
- Provide commercial insight and support to the wider management team
- Manage and develop supply chain relationships

What We’re Looking For

- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a commercial role with a main contractor or subcontractor (social housing or similar sectors)
- Good understanding of measurement and valuation, including Schedules of Rates
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage costs and maximise value
- Organised and professional, with strong communication skills
- Good IT skills, including Excel and internal cost systems
- Experience managing stakeholder relationships and resolving issues effectively
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage competing priorities
- Proactive attitude with strong attention to detail
- Full UK driving licence

Qualifications

- Degree or qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field
- RICS membership (or working towards it) is desirable
