Job Description This floater phlebotomist role provides high-quality specimen collection services across multiple locations in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and occasionally Staten Island. The position requires an experienced phlebotomist who is confident performing venipunctures independently from day one, proficient with straight needles, and able to deliver accurate, timely, and courteous service in a fast-paced clinical environment. Responsibilities

- Perform blood draws and venipunctures independently using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (such as urine or fecal specimens) to patients prior to collection.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures and protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, verifying that each specimen is correctly associated with the appropriate test order.
- Accurately label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the specific test order.
- Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against the script or orders to ensure 100% accuracy before processing.
- Package specimens securely for transport, following all protocols to preserve specimen quality.
- Store specimen samples at the required temperature and place them in the appropriate collection containers or tubes in accordance with protocol.
- Follow detailed procedures for specimen handling and transport to maintain integrity, including specialized protocols when necessary.
- Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as required to support a clean, safe, and compliant work area.
- Update patient information accurately in the appropriate systems or documentation.
- Provide courteous, professional customer service to patients, colleagues, and other stakeholders while working in a fast-paced environment.
- Travel between assigned locations as a floater phlebotomist, adapting to different site procedures while maintaining consistent quality standards.

Essential Skills

- Minimum of 3 years of recent phlebotomy experience, with strong proficiency in venipuncture.
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
- High level of proficiency with straight needles and the ability to perform venipunctures independently from the first day.
- Demonstrated experience in specimen collection, including blood draws and venipuncture.
- Ability to accurately label, handle, and process specimens, including centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required.
- Strong attention to detail when matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verifying test orders.
- Reliable and punctual work habits, with the ability to adhere to varying schedules across multiple sites.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for basic documentation and communication tasks.
- Customer service skills, with the ability to interact professionally and empathetically with patients and staff.

Work Environment This is a floater phlebotomist position that operates across multiple locations, including Queens (Ridgewood, Woodhaven), Brooklyn, Manhattan, and occasionally Staten Island, with Staten Island travel kept very limited. The schedule follows extended daytime hours and may vary based on assignment needs: Mondays and Tuesdays from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. as needed, and every other Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with Sundays as needed. The role takes place in fast-paced clinical and laboratory settings that require strict adherence to specimen handling protocols and attention to detail. Travel between sites is a regular part of the role, and mileage, tolls, and parking can be reimbursed. The environment emphasizes professional conduct, clear communication, and consistent, high-quality patient care.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $26.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
