Job Description

Teledyne DGO is seeking an experienced 2nd Shift Welder to support fabrication, assembly, tooling, and manufacturing operations in a high-precision environment. This position is responsible for performing TIG welding, brazing, soldering, fitting, assembly, and related manufacturing activities while ensuring compliance with engineering specifications, quality requirements, and safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong welding and fabrication skills, mechanical aptitude, blueprint reading capabilities, and experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, weld symbols, and specifications.
- Review and verify dimensions and tolerances on drawings to determine proper setup methods and work operation sequences.
- Layout, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies using rulers, straightedges, calipers, combination squares, fixtures, and templates.
- Prepare components for welding by cleaning, grinding, cutting, deburring, fitting, and assembling parts.
- Perform TIG welding, brazing, soldering, and other approved welding processes on stainless steel, nickel alloys, aluminum, and other specialty materials.
- Weld components in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions as required.
- Clamp, hold, tack weld, heat bend, grind, or bolt components to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
- Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment in accordance with approved welding procedures.
- Recognize, set up, and operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, cutting equipment, fixtures, and fabrication equipment commonly used in the welding trade.
- Monitor fitting, burning, and welding processes to minimize distortion, shrinkage, warping, or overheating of materials.
- Examine completed weldments and assemblies for defects and compliance with quality standards.
- Utilize precision measuring equipment to verify conformance of completed work to specifications.
- Select, align, and secure fixtures, tooling, materials, and equipment necessary to perform required operations.
- Fabricate weldments, special fixtures, tooling, production aids, and custom assemblies as required.
- Assist in the manufacture, modification, and repair of jigs, fixtures, gauges, machine tools, dies, and production tooling used in manufacturing operations.
- Detect faulty operation of equipment, tooling, or materials and promptly notify supervision of concerns.
- Identify and correct minor equipment malfunctions and perform routine equipment adjustments as authorized.
- Adjust machine and equipment settings as required to ensure product quality and adherence to specifications.
- Verify that all work complies with engineering, workmanship, quality, and customer requirements.
- Complete required production, quality, and traceability documentation accurately and timely.
- Confer with supervisors, production personnel, manufacturing engineers, quality personnel, and programmers to resolve fabrication or assembly issues.
- Maintain welding certifications and qualifications required for assigned work.
- Support continuous improvement, safety initiatives, cost-reduction efforts, and lean manufacturing activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certified TIG Welder preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of welding and fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with stainless steel, aluminum, nickel alloys, or other specialty metals preferred.
- Brazing and soldering experience preferred.
- Experience with tooling, fixture fabrication, and mechanical assembly is highly desirable.
- Experience working in aerospace, defense, precision manufacturing, or other highly regulated industries preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
- Ability to read and understand weld symbols and engineering drawings.
- Proficiency using machinist measuring tools including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and precision measuring instruments.
- Working knowledge of welding processes, fabrication techniques, and metalworking practices.
- Ability to inspect own work and verify compliance with dimensional and quality requirements.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, NAVSEA, AWS, or similar quality systems preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workmanship excellence.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a team environment.

Additional Requirements

- Must be able to obtain and maintain any required welding qualifications and certifications.
- U.S. Citizen required due to access to ITAR-controlled technical data and export-controlled information.
- Ability to frequently stand, bend, lift, reach, and perform physical production activities throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
