The Department of Mathematical, Information and Computer Sciences (MICS) is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure-track teaching position in mathematics, statistics or data science. The Department is seeking an individual capable of excellent teaching, committed to significant involvement with students both within and outside of the classroom, and interested in participating in the department’s service learning and undergraduate research programs.

Salary:

PLNU pays its faculty using a payscale based on experience and academic rank. Faculty salaries using this scale for a 2-semester appointment range from $78,494 to $137,747. The actual salary will be based on the experience, rank, and appointment term of the candidate selected to fill this position.

Job Description:

The Department has a strong commitment to quality teaching, and passion for building Christian community with students, a tradition of high impact academic practices, and experience in using our skills for collaborative and interdisciplinary work. The Department has partnered with the natural sciences, psychology, kinesiology, and business in developing both academic programs and research projects.

The Department offers B.S. and B.A. degrees in Mathematics, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Information Systems. The department is also home to an adult degree completion program in Computer Information Technology and has worked in partnership with the Department of Physics and Engineering to create an Engineering degree with concentrations in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

Responsibilities begin August 2027 and will include teaching a wide variety of courses in mathematics. Academic rank and compensation levels will be based on degrees earned and related experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

- Teach in the area of mathematics and statistics including some general education and service courses.
- Engage in personal scholarship and scholarship with students (where possible).
- Advise students academically, spiritually, and professionally.
- Prepare students for their post graduate career.
- Help students find who they are called to be.
- Participate in departmental activities and governance.
- Successful candidate will work strategically with diverse colleagues, students, parents and community members.
- Serve on university faculty committees/working groups and perform other faculty duties.
- Contribute in preparing students for their post graduate career and finding who they are called to be.

QUALIFICATIONS :

- Education: Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or Data Science.
- Experience: Evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching students from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
- Philosophical: Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education and a desire to work in a Christian university. Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
- Personal: Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant .

SELECTION PROCESS :

Applicants will be expected to submit an application and corresponding documents. All applicants will be reviewed and evaluated. From this pool of applicants, a limited number will be selected and moved forward in the process. The interview process may include:

- Phone/Zoom Interview
- Dialogue with students and faculty in the Mathematical, Information and Computer Sciences Department and faculty in the Physics and Engineering Department since the two departments work collaboratively
- Lecture presented to faculty and students in the Mathematical, Information and Computer Science Department
- Interview with the Academic Unit Leader
- Interview with the Dean
- Interview with the Provost
- Interview with the President of the University
