Job Description:

SCOPE : The Senior Specialty Pharmacy Patient Financial Advocate serves as the primary financial access liaison for patients receiving medications through the specialty pharmacy. The position proactively engages patients following referral, explains the specialty pharmacy insurance and financial clearance process, communicates prescription coverage and patient financial responsibility, identifies affordability barriers, and coordinates financial assistance resources to support timely initiation and continuation of prescribed therapy. The position independently manages complex financial-access cases involving high-cost specialty and oncology medications and serves as a subject-matter resource for specialty pharmacy financial access and patient affordability.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Associate or bachelor's degree in healthcare, business, pharmacy, finance, or a related field preferred but not required.
Minimum three years of progressively responsible experience in specialty pharmacy, medication access, patient financial advocacy, pharmacy benefits, manufacturer assistance programs, oncology medication access, or a related healthcare setting required. Five or more years of relevant experience preferred.

Experience communicating insurance coverage and patient financial responsibility directly with patients required.

Experience with commercial and government prescription benefits and manufacturer copay assistance, charitable foundations, grants, or patient assistance programs preferred.

No certifications required, however pharmacy technician registration and/or Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification may be preferred when applicable to the individual's background or assigned responsibilities. Any activity requiring pharmacy technician registration, pharmacist licensure, or other authorization must be performed by appropriately credentialed personnel.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of specialty pharmacy financial-access processes, commercial and government prescription benefits, copayments, coinsurance, deductibles, manufacturer copay programs, charitable foundations, patient assistance programs, and free-drug programs.

Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex financial-access cases involving high-cost specialty medications.

Strong patient communication, organization, problem-solving, prioritization, documentation, and follow-through skills.

Ability to appropriately distinguish financial/access questions from clinical questions requiring pharmacist assessment or counseling.
