Job Title: BIM Coordinator Job Description
The BIM Coordinator serves as a BIM Lead, driving the entire BIM process from internal project teams to external stakeholders and ensuring high-quality deliverables that meet project schedule, budget, and scope. This role focuses on model coordination, field liaison activities, and the use of BIM models for construction, while supporting design, planning, and installation efforts with field management. The BIM Coordinator holds ownership and accountability for critical tasks that impact the design, planning, coordination, and installation of commercial construction projects and plays a key role in establishing BIM modeling standards, virtual construction initiatives, project coordination, and field support.
Responsibilities
- Lead BIM and virtual construction efforts across multiple commercial construction projects.
- Develop and maintain detailed Revit models to support design, coordination, fabrication, and construction activities.
- Create and manage project views, sheets, schedules, filters, and model organization structures within Revit.
- Translate marked-up drawings, sketches, and engineering documents into construction-ready models and drawings.
- Coordinate BIM models across multiple disciplines and trades to support clash detection and constructability reviews.
- Support prefabrication and field installation efforts through accurate layout, dimensioned modeling, and model-based planning.
- Act as a liaison between the office and the field, ensuring BIM models align with onsite conditions and installation requirements.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, project coordinators, and field teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage Revit worksharing environments, including worksets and collaborative project workflows, to ensure efficient model production.
- Lead virtual construction and laser scanning initiatives, including point cloud coordination and modeling of existing conditions.
- Coordinate the development and delivery of 3D models generated from laser scan data for use in design and construction.
- Train and mentor BIM modelers in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and BIM best practices to elevate team capabilities.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining company-wide BIM standards, workflows, and quality control procedures.
- Participate in digital layout activities utilizing model-based construction technologies and Total Station equipment.
- Maintain project documentation, model archives, and electronic drawing management systems in an organized and accessible manner.
- Support project teams with cloud-based document management and collaboration platforms, including BIM 360 and similar tools.
- Ensure construction documents and drawings are accurately reflected in BIM models and updated as design changes occur.
- Perform additional BIM, VDC, and project support duties as needed to ensure successful project delivery.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated experience leading BIM and virtual construction efforts on commercial construction projects.
- Strong proficiency in Revit for design, coordination, fabrication, and construction modeling.
- Hands-on experience with Navisworks for model coordination, clash detection, and constructability analysis.
- Ability to develop, organize, and manage project views, sheets, schedules, filters, and model structures in Revit.
- Experience translating marked-up drawings, sketches, and engineering documents into detailed construction-ready models and drawings.
- Proven ability to coordinate models across multiple disciplines and trades to support clash detection and field installation.
- Experience managing Revit worksharing environments, worksets, and collaborative project workflows.
- Knowledge of BIM 360 and other cloud-based document management and collaboration platforms.
- Proficiency with construction documents, construction drawings, and model-based construction technologies.
- Experience with laser scanning workflows, including point cloud coordination and existing-condition modeling.
- Ability to coordinate and deliver 3D models generated from laser scan data for project use.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD for drafting and model support.
- Background in electrical drafting, electrical design, and modeling within a construction context.
- Understanding of BIM standards, workflows, and quality control procedures within a construction or engineering environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with electrical contractors or on electrical scopes within large commercial or industrial projects.
- Familiarity with the semiconductor industry and complex industrial projects is a strong plus.
- Experience supporting prefabrication and field installation through accurate layout and dimensioned modeling.
- Ability to mentor and train other BIM modelers and team members in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and BIM best practices.
- Experience participating in digital layout activities utilizing Total Station equipment.
- Strong collaboration skills with project managers, engineers, project coordinators, and onsite electricians.
- Ability to contribute to the development and continuous improvement of BIM standards and virtual construction initiatives.
- Strong organizational skills for maintaining project documentation, model archives, and electronic drawing systems.
Work Environment
This role is primarily office-based and offers strong mentorship from experienced team members, providing an excellent environment for professional growth in BIM and virtual construction. The BIM Coordinator works closely with the design team and onsite electricians, supporting coordination between office and field. Work is focused on large, complex projects, including those in the semiconductor industry, providing exposure to advanced technologies and challenging construction environments. The position offers the flexibility to work in multiple office locations, including Portland and Seattle. Benefits during the 12-month consultancy period include seven paid holidays and a combined bank of 40 hours of paid time off and sick time. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $65.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
