Structural Engineering Technical Lead, Terafab

Tesla is seeking an experienced Structural Technical Lead with a proven track record in the design and delivery of critical infrastructure projects, including industrial, manufacturing, data center, semiconductor, and other high-tech facilities. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in the structural analysis and design of concrete and steel structures, along with the ability to drive multidisciplinary coordination with Architecture, MEP, Piping, and Process teams.

This role is for a Technical Lead who will own and guide the resolution of complex structural challenges in high-tech and critical infrastructure environments. Responsibilities span all project phases from conceptual planning through detailed design and construction, while setting technical direction, ensuring full alignment with project-specific requirements, and interfacing directly with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver robust, constructible solutions.

- Lead the design and construction of a variety of new and renovation projects for industrial, manufacturing, data center, semiconductor and other high-tech facilities
- Conduct and review structural analyses, including advanced finite element modeling (FEM), thermal expansion, vibration transfer paths, foundation systems for sensitive equipment, and vibration isolation/control strategies
- Provide technical leadership in multidisciplinary design teams, coordinating closely with Civil, A/MEP/F, Process, Controls and Commissioning (CX) teams
- Develop and enforce design standards and procedures specific to high-tech facility construction, including tolerance specifications and interface coordination with specialty systems (e.g., chemical gas delivery, wastewater treatment)
- Perform QA/QC reviews of both internal and external design deliverables, including calculations, drawings, and specifications
- Support project delivery phases including preliminary design and planning estimates with limited scoping, design development, constructability reviews, and construction administration
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to senior stakeholders/leadership, presenting design options, trade-offs, and risk assessments clearly and concisely

- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience in structural engineering, with at least 3 years focused exclusively on high-tech facilities (semiconductor, data center, biotech, advanced manufacturing)
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in good standing in the State of Texas (or eligible for reciprocity. Registered Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred
- Familiarity with Revit Structural and experienced with Navisworks/Revizto
- Deep familiarity with US building codes (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC) and industry-specific design standards
- Experience with project delivery in fast-paced, integrated owner-led environments
- Strong communication skills: ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and secure cross-functional buy-in
