MAGISTRATE – MUNICIPAL COURT
Salary Range: $24.35 - $33.70 per hour
The City of Alabaster is seeking a knowledgeable, dependable, and service-oriented professional to join our Municipal Court team as a Magistrate.
The purpose of this position is to exercise authority as assigned by law to issue warrants, accept pleas, receive and record fines, provide clerical and administrative support to the Municipal Court, and perform other duties mandated by applicable local, state, and federal laws.
Applicants must currently possess certification as a Municipal Court Magistrate to qualify for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED
- At least one year of related administrative experience
- Current certification as a Municipal Court Magistrate
- Ability to obtain certification as a National Crime Information Center computer operator
- Eligibility for appointment as an Alabama Notary Public
- Valid Alabama driver’s license that must be maintained throughout employment
- Availability to participate in a nighttime and weekend call-out rotation
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
- Knowledge of the Alabama Rules of Judicial Administration and Alabama Rules of Criminal Procedure
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills with close attention to detail
- Proficiency in the use of computers, databases, and office systems
- Strong customer-service skills and the ability to clearly provide information to citizens
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to safeguard confidential and sensitive information
- Sound judgment within the scope of assigned authority and responsibility
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, court personnel, law-enforcement personnel, and members of the public
