Ecommerce Engineer

Purpose:

The eCommerce Engineer builds and maintains features across the flooranddecor.com online platform, working full stack across front-end and back-end systems to deliver reliable, high-quality customer experiences. This role is a core contributor to the engineering team, translating well-defined requirements into working code under the guidance of senior engineers and technical leads.

Success in this role requires curiosity, a willingness to learn quickly, and comfort working across the modern development toolchain — including AI-assisted (“vibe coding”) tools that accelerate prototyping and implementation — while following the platform's engineering standards, coding practices, and release processes.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities:

Full-Stack Development

- Build, test, and maintain front-end components using React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript within established design systems
- Develop and support back-end services, APIs, and integrations that power the eCommerce experience
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code following team coding standards and peer review practices

Platform Contribution

- Support day-to-day development, configuration, and troubleshooting on flooranddecor.com's commerce platform (e.g., Salesforce Commerce Cloud, WebSphere Commerce, or a comparable large-scale platform)
- Assist with catalog, pricing, promotions, checkout, and other core commerce workflows under senior engineer guidance
- Participate in code deployments and monitor the post-release health of assigned features

Quality & Testing

- Write and maintain unit, integration, and automated regression tests for assigned features
- Participate in QA cycles, defect triage, and bug fixes to help maintain platform stability
- Support performance and accessibility testing for customer-facing pages

Collaboration & Growth

- Work closely with senior engineers, QA, and product partners in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver sprint commitments
- Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to accelerate coding tasks, prototyping, and debugging, while maintaining code quality and security standards
- Actively build platform and full-stack expertise through pairing, code review feedback, and self-directed learning

Minimum Qualifications

- 1-3 years of professional software development experience, including exposure to full-stack web development
- Working knowledge of React (or a comparable modern JavaScript framework) and front-end fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript)
- Experience with at least one back-end language/framework (Java preferred) and RESTful APIs
- Familiarity with Git-based version control and collaborative development workflows
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred

- Exposure to a large-scale eCommerce or digital commerce platform (e.g., Salesforce Commerce Cloud, WebSphere Commerce, Magento, or similar)
- Experience using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) in a professional development workflow
- Understanding of Agile/Scrum development practices
- Basic knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and cloud-hosted environments
- Interest in retail, eCommerce, or consumer-facing digital products
- Performance – Curious about why things are fast or slow, and eager to learn how to measure before optimizing.
- AI-forward engineering – Comfortable using AI tools (Claude Code and similar) to accelerate learning and daily coding tasks.
- Growth mindset – Eager to learn from feedback, ask questions, and grow full-stack and platform skills quickly.
