Job Title: Manufacturing Process Engineer Job Description
The Manufacturing Process Engineer will leverage prior automotive manufacturing experience to develop, refine, and maintain Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (PFMEAs). This role collaborates closely with product development and failure mode avoidance (FMA) experts to ensure manufacturing controls are robust, audit findings are resolved, and documentation is accurate and up to date in the appropriate systems. The engineer will play a key role in connecting design inputs with shop-floor processes to improve detection methods and overall product quality.
Responsibilities
- Develop, populate, and maintain PFMEAs by applying existing manufacturing engineering experience within the automotive environment.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product development teams to obtain and interpret design inputs for PFMEAs.
- Locate and review DFMEAs in the internal repository to extract severity ratings and failure effects for use in PFMEAs.
- Partner with FMA experts to resolve PFMEA audit discrepancies and ensure alignment with failure mode avoidance standards.
- Analyze manufacturing controls to determine opportunities to improve PFMEA detection methods and overall process robustness.
- Upload deviation proof and related documentation into systems such as Jira and E2KS, ensuring PFMEAs are updated to current standards.
- Obtain required supervisory approvals and signatures on PFMEAs and upload finalized documents to the FEDE workbench.
- Utilize tools such as Teamcenter and GSPAS to access engineering data, manage process information, and support manufacturing process improvements.
- Manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality documentation.
- Work both independently and collaboratively with diverse, cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
Essential Skills
- 3–5 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer within the automotive industry.
- Hands-on experience with the PFMEA process and failure mode avoidance (FMA) methodologies.
- Strong understanding of installation processes for vehicle parts and process engineering principles.
- Experience in manufacturing engineering within an OEM or similar manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with PFMEA tools, documentation, and audit processes.
- Ability and familiarity with Excel for data analysis and documentation.
- Ability to work with internal engineering and manufacturing websites and systems.
- Proficiency with Teamcenter for product data management.
- Proficiency with GSPAS for process and manufacturing support.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related field.
- Familiarity with manufacturing environments and processes in OEM settings.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, and quality.
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic working environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate PFMEA and documentation management.
Work Environment
This position is based at a Product Development Center in Dearborn, MI. Core work hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and you are expected to be available during this time frame while flexibly starting earlier or finishing later to complete an eight-hour workday. The role involves working in a professional office and engineering environment with regular use of digital tools such as Excel, internal engineering websites, Teamcenter, GSPAS, Jira, E2KS, and the FEDE workbench. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is frequent, and the culture supports flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork. Dress code is business casual.

This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $43.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
