Reporting to the Clinical Director of the Rosemary Furman Counseling Center, the Staff
Psychotherapist delivers direct clinical services to Barnard students, providing clinical assessment,
short-term individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, consultation, and referrals. A
35‑hour/week role with periodic nights/weekends on an on‑call rotation.

Job Description:

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments, individual psychotherapy, group therapy, and emergency/crisis response.

• Provide culturally informed trauma‑informed care.

• Participate in the clinic's on‑call after-hours rotation.

• Facilitate specialty therapy groups or psychoeducational workshops.

• Engage in outreach and training to the student population.

• Participate in campus-based outreach to increase student awareness of and access to counseling services.

• Maintain and update patient records in accordance with professional standards.

• Provide supervision and support to psychology or social work trainees or early professionals.

• Contribute to quality assurance, evaluation, quality improvement, and data reporting, including attendance and engagement data (e.g., workshop evaluations, QR-code survey participation) to support Health & Wellness outreach and awareness metrics.

• Support timely access to care by managing caseload and appointment availability in line with Center-wide utilization goals.

• Maintain active professional licensure by completing ongoing continuing education and fulfilling all certification requirements.

• Manage individual client care coordination and external referrals.

• May be assigned to lead or support special initiatives that fall under the category of additional duties as assigned and are critical to the functioning and advancement of the Center’s services.

Administrative time will be assigned to these duties to support successful implementation, and duties may be reassigned as determined by Health and Wellness Leadership. These may include specialized duties related to areas including:

◦ Alcohol and other drug (AOD) Specialist

◦ Eating Disorder Specialist

◦ Training Director

◦ Other initiatives as assigned

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Required Qualifications

• PhD or PsyD in Counseling/Clinical Psychology, LCSW (or LCSW eligible).

• Licensed or license‑eligible in New York State.

• License-eligible candidates must obtain full New York State licensure within 12 months of hire.

• ≥3 years of experience providing individual and group therapy.

• Ability to assess, evaluate, and refer students to appropriate resources and referrals. • Proficiency in trauma‑informed treatment.

• Demonstrated commitment to working with students with varied identities, experiences, and needs.

• Strong organizational, time‑management, and collaborative skills.

• Ability to work autonomously and participate in after‑hours/on‑call duties.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in hospital and/or college mental health settings.

• Crisis intervention experience.

• Integrative orientation (e.g., psychodynamic, trauma-informed).

• Experience supervising and mentoring trainees, including postdoctoral fellows, externs, interns, or other clinicians-in-training within licensed mental health training programs.

• Demonstrated ability to provide clinical supervision, case consultation, and developmental feedback to trainees and early-career clinicians.

|Salary Range: $97,000 - $103,000

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
