Job Description:

The Licensed NFPA Fire Sprinkler & Suppression Inspector/Technician is a skilled journey-level position responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and code compliance of fire protection systems across Louisiana State University's Baton Rouge campus. This position performs inspection, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of fire sprinkler, standpipe, fire pump, and special hazard suppression systems in accordance with applicable NFPA standards, state and local codes, and university policies. The technician supports the University's life safety program by identifying deficiencies, documenting inspection results, coordinating corrective actions, and responding to emergency service requests to maintain operational readiness and protect students, faculty, staff, visitors, and university assets.

Job Duties:

25%- Perform inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire sprinkler, standpipe, fire pump, and special hazard suppression systems in accordance with applicable NFPA standards, state regulations, and local fire codes.

25%- Conduct scheduled inspections of wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, clean agent, foam, dry chemical, and wet chemical suppression systems to ensure operational readiness and regulatory compliance. Collaborate with facility personnel, contractors, fire marshals, insurance representatives, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction to support inspections, acceptance testing, and compliance initiatives.

10%- Troubleshoot and repair deficiencies in fire protection systems, including valves, sprinkler heads, piping, fire pumps, controllers, alarms, supervisory devices, and associated equipment.

10%- Complete and maintain accurate inspection reports, testing documentation, deficiency logs, and corrective action records using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and inspection software.

10%- Coordinate system impairments, planned shutdowns, emergency repairs, and restoration of fire protection systems while minimizing disruption to facility operations.

10%- Interpret fire protection drawings, equipment specifications, and applicable NFPA codes to evaluate system performance, identify code deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions.

5%- Maintain required licenses, certifications, and safety training while adhering to OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, confined space requirements, and established workplace safety practices.

5%- Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of three years of experience inspecting, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and documenting commercial water-based fire protection systems (sprinkler systems) in accordance with NFPA 25 and applicable state and local codes.

Special or Physical Qualifications:

This position requires a valid driver's license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

This position is classified as a safety and security-sensitive position. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

This position is considered emergency essential and may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.

This position will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required.

- NICET Water-Based Systems Inspection and Testing Level I License
- Valid Driver's License
