Commercial Kitchen Service Technician

If you can diagnose a refrigeration issue, understand that “it’s making a weird noise” is not a complete service history, and don’t need someone standing over your shoulder all day—we should probably talk.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing

You’ll keep commercial kitchens running for restaurants, hotels, hospitals, and other businesses that get understandably dramatic when the refrigerator quits refrigerating or the fryer refuses to fry.

You’ll:

- Diagnose and repair commercial cooking, refrigeration, warewashing, and specialty food-service equipment
- Read wiring diagrams and schematics without immediately reconsidering your career choices
- Build relationships with customers who will be genuinely thrilled to see you
- Work independently, manage your schedule, and solve problems without constant supervision
- Earn quarterly bonuses by meeting productivity and efficiency goals

What You’ll Need

- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year of technical experience in refrigeration, HVAC, appliance repair, commercial kitchen equipment, or military service
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
- Willingness to participate in an emergency on-call rotation, including some nights and weekends
- Ability to travel overnight occasionally
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship

Even Better If You Have

- EPA, CFESA, or other relevant licenses, training, or certifications
- Commercial refrigeration or cooking-equipment repair experience
- The ability to prioritize your workload and get things done without being babysat

The Physical Part Nobody Should Pretend Doesn’t Exist

This is a hands-on technician role. You’ll frequently kneel, bend, squat, push, pull, and reach, and occasionally lift up to 70 pounds. You may work around moving equipment, pressurized steam, open flames, hot surfaces, electricity, and environments ranging from humid kitchens to freezing walk-ins. Ladders and rooftops may also make an occasional appearance.
