The primary purpose of this job is to remain outside the dangerous area, maintain communication with the team inside, and initiate emergency protocols if something goes wrong.

Key Information:

- Hours: Project dependent.

- Must be willing to working evenings and weekends when needed.

- Hourly rate is dependent on experience.

Job Description:

- Verify that only authorized, trained, and equipped personnel enter the designated confined space.

- Keep an accurate, real-time tracking sheet of entrant names, IDs, and exact entry/exit times.

- Monitor atmospheric conditions using gas detectors to check for toxic fumes, oxygen deficiency, or combustible gases before and during work.

- Keep unauthorized site visitors or hazards away from the opening or hole

- Maintain constant verbal or visual communication with workers inside the space to assess their well-being.

- Use sight, smell, and equipment to watch for external dangers, such as shifting ground, trench wall instability, or incoming liquid/debris.

- Call for immediate evacuation if an environmental threat, behavioral change in workers, or external hazard arises

- Immediately activate onsite emergency services or rescue teams if a worker becomes trapped or incapacitated.

- Perform external rescue maneuvers (such as operating mechanical retrieval winches or tripods) if trained and equipped.

- Never enter the confined space to attempt a rescue unless explicitly trained, fully equipped with breathing apparatus, and properly relieved by another watcher.

Experience and Certification Requirements:

- 1 to 2 years of industrial or civil construction or equivalent experience required.

- CSTS 2020, WHMIS 2015, and Ground Disturbance 201 are required .

- Must hold a valid Confined Space Entrant/Attendant certification and basic construction safety training (e.g., OSHA 10).

- Excellent verbal communication, sharp focus, and the ability to remain completely calm during high-stress emergency situations.

- Ability to stand or sit outdoors near a work area for extended shifts in variable weather conditions.

- Multi-gas detectors, two-way radios, safety harnesses, winches, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

- You have a safety conscious attitude and able to work with others in a team.

- A reliable means of transportation is required.

- Proficient English language skills required.

Education: Completion of high school or equivalent is required.
