Creative Arts Therapist- Ford Road

Malvern Treatment Centers is currently seeking a full time Creative Arts Therapist to work at our Malvern Behavioral Health facility in Philadelphia.  The location of our Malvern Treatment Centers - Philadelphia recently relocated to 3905 W. Ford Road - Philadelphia, PA 19131.

The Creative Arts Therapist is a newly created position with primary responsibilities as required as a member of the Treatment Team in delivering direct patient care services. The schedule for the Creative Arts Therapist is a full time schedule working eight (8) hour shifts.

POSITION SUMMARY:

- Provides quality creative arts and psychotherapeutic treatment services to all patient populations and their families as needed.

- Provides assessment, group treatment, milieu management, and family work as needed.

- Serves as a member of interdisciplinary team supporting the organization’s treatment program and philosophy.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Training:

Minium of a Master’s Degree in Human Service field with a specialty in Creative Arts (e.g. Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance Movement Therapy, Recreational Therapy, etc. .)

Experience:

At least 2 years’ experience in the mental health field, inpatient psychiatric experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

- LPC or CRT preferred

- Handle With Care Certification

- CPR Certification (Preferred)

Knowledge and Skills:

- Knowledge of developmental psychology and needs of various populations.

- Knowledge of short term/acute care stabilization mental health treatment.

- Knowledge of empirically based treatment modalities

- Able to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.

- Knowledge of milieu management.

- Knowledge of appropriate assessments, diagnoses, and interventions with patients.

- Ability to maintain professional relationships with patients, patient’s family members, staff and community personnel.

- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and high ethical standards

- Assessment skills for evaluating mental illness and substance abuse in clients age 18 and above.

- Facilitation skills for leading creative/expressive arts. May also facilitate process, psycho education, and skills groups based on the program needs of the unit

- As part of a multidisciplinary team is able to provide input into appropriate aftercare placements and resources.

- Professional verbal and written skills for communicating the patient status and treatment needs to employees of the hospital, payers, families, professionals, paraprofessionals, and members of the patient's community.

- Skills in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation.

CUSTOMERS SERVED:

Patients; families; direct-care service providers; external funding sources; service, accreditation, and licensing agencies; external case managers; other staff; and the community.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires sufficient body mobility to accomplish essential functions.  Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.  Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel with ease.  Requires walking and standing often.  Requires frequently speaking on the telephone.  Able to write legibly and grammatically to convey patient behavior and information in the patient chart.  Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.  Communicating fluently and effectively both verbally and in writing in English.  Ability to perform HWC techniques.  Ability to appropriately interact with all program staff, patients, visitors, attending physicians, and other department representatives.

Environment:   Works in well-lighted, well-ventilated area, with moderate traffic flow of patients, visitors, staff, and others.

Job Hazards:

Employee may be exposed to:

- Internal/External disasters in which appropriate policies, procedures, and plans must be followed to protect personnel, patients, and staff;

- Infections/communicable diseases and hazardous/toxic agents.

- Encounter some chemical listed in the MSDS sheets.

Other:   Participates in therapeutic crisis intervention with physically aggressive patients which may involve some personal risk.
