Focus:

Olin Chlor Alkali Products & Vinyls, a division of Olin Corporation, has an opening for a Chemical Operator , located in Charleston, TN .  This position ensures a safe and reliable operation of a complex/heavily regulated chemical production plant by following operating disciplines, procedures, and work processes in a team environment. Candidates will be hired to work in a variety of operator/technician roles across the plant, depending on current availability. This role will be for the Shipping Area Operator.

Chemical Operator Essential Functions:

- Load chemicals into railcars, trucks, and barges. Ship empty and loaded railcars, trucks, and barges. Perform outbound inspections of railcars, trucks, and barges.
- Repair or replace valves on caustic, KOH and Chlorine on railcars and/or barges, and dome gaskets on caustic and KOH railcars. Maintain area equipment. Perform railcar cleaning and testing.
- Utilize Mobile Railcar Movers, railyard switches, and railyard management knowledge to move and spot railcars for loading and unloading operations.
- Complete and maintain railcar/truck loading log; salt storage inventory log; shift activities daily log; yard check inventory sheet (electronic); pre and post loading inspection sheets for trucks, railcars, barges; safety and housekeeping inspection sheets; barge loading fax sheet for Coast Guard prior to loading barges.
- Provide information and technical sustenance requested by internal and external customers; troubleshoot problems at customers' plant sites
- Assist in overall area responsibilities for best coordination of area and plant operation.
- Cooperate with maintenance and development projects to attain and maximum efficiency in operations and minimize outages of equipment.
- Perform all duties in alignment with Olin's quality policy and per the ISO9001/RC14001 standards and procedures.
- Errors may result in severe consequences due to hazardous materials and complex equipment

Chemical Operator Minimum Requirements:

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of three years of work experience (36 months of full-time work at time of application)
- Ability to demonstrate mechanical reasoning, spatial reasoning, and behavioral measures identified as important for the role
- Possess a valid U.S. Driver's license

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

- Associate's degree* in Process Technology, Industrial Engineering, Instrumentation, Electrical or Computer Technology
- Production, maintenance, and/or distribution related experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Relevant military experience with a technical specialty
- Prior Olin experience in a related position

Work Conditions and Physical Demand Requirements:

- Ability to work the schedule(s) specified above as well as overtime, holidays, and weekend as required
- Ability to serve in the emergency response/rescue team and respond to HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) with OSHA training
- Ability to pass drug screen and background check if offer is received and accepted
- Ability to pass a functional physical test, with or without reasonable accommodations, if offer is received and accepted Use standard safety equipment and wear all required personal protective equipment including in extreme hot/cold environments
- Work in confined, tight, or closed-in spaces
- Climb ladders and stairs through multiple levels, work at heights,
- Lift hoses, bolt flanges, operate valves and similar equipment as part of a normal job
- Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
