Job Description
Partners with assigned Lines of Business, Risk/Compliance/Audit (RCA) professionals, and RCA leadership to create, implement, maintain, review, support, and oversee an effective risk management framework. Serves as a trusted liaison between business partners and the Lines of Defense to strengthen risk awareness, governance, compliance, and control effectiveness.
Identifies, assesses, responds to, escalates, and drives resolution of operational, regulatory, compliance, reputational, and strategic risks. Leads cross-functional efforts to identify and address emerging risks, control gaps, operational losses, customer remediation events, and issue management activities. Participates in projects and initiatives that ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, enterprise policies, and risk management standards.
Facilitates root cause analysis, trend identification, issue management, and reporting activities to support informed decision-making, continuous process improvement, and effective risk oversight. Develops and delivers executive-level reporting, governance materials, and risk metrics that communicate business impacts, emerging risks, and control effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Partners with business leaders and stakeholders to identify, assess, manage, and mitigate operational, regulatory, and compliance risks.
- Facilitate the identification, assessment, root cause analysis, ownership, escalation, and resolution of issues through the Potential Issue Management (PIM) Program and related governance processes
- Identify process, control, or operational gaps and recommend solutions that minimize losses resulting from inadequate internal processes, systems, or human error
- Monitor and analyze issues, operational loss, customer remediation, refund, adjustment, and credit activity to identify trends, emerging risks, and opportunities for control improvement
- Lead or support cross-functional governance and reporting activities related to Merchant and Partner Credits, Customer Remediation, Operational Losses, Product and Service Inventory, Issues Management, Merchant/Partner Refunds & Adjustments Working Group (RAA) initiatives and Model/AI
- Coordinate issue intake, evidence collection, incident reviews, corrective action tracking, and resolution follow-up across business, risk, compliance, operations, finance, and technology stakeholders
- Support audits, regulatory examinations, and risk reviews by providing analysis, documentation, reporting, and issue management support
- Develop executive reporting, dashboards, and risk metrics to communicate key trends, control effectiveness, and business impacts
- Support AI and model risk governance activities, including inventory reporting, monitoring, and stakeholder coordination
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen controls, processes, governance practices, and overall risk management maturity
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, enterprise policies, and risk management standards
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- Typically more than six years of experience
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Seven or more years of applicable experience in risk management, compliance, audit, operational risk, governance, or related financial services functions
- Advanced knowledge of risk management, operational risk, issue management, compliance, governance, and audit practices
- Advanced knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, financial services requirements, and regulatory trends affecting Payments, Merchant Payment Services, and related business lines
- Advanced understanding of business operations, products, services, systems, and associated risks and controls
- Experience supporting Product and Service Inventory governance, validation activities, maintenance of inventory records, and audit-ready documentation
- Demonstrated experience facilitating root cause analysis, issue management, incident reviews, operational loss management, customer remediation activities, and corrective action planning.
- Experience supporting AI and model risk governance activities, including inventory reporting, EMQ follow-up, PRISM, BCIQ, or related model governance programs
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills with the ability to identify emerging risks and translate complex information into actionable recommendations
- Experience developing executive-level reporting, governance materials, dashboards, metrics, and risk trend analysis
- Strong knowledge of risk identification, control evaluation, credible challenge, governance reporting, and escalation frameworks
- Experience supporting audits, regulatory examinations, and governance forums
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Tableau, Salesforce, Archer, ServiceNow, and other risk management or workflow tools
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proven ability to build effective partnerships across business, risk, compliance, audit, operations, finance, and technology teams
- Strong business acumen with the ability to proactively identify risks, strengthen controls, improve processes, and support changing business needs
- Professional certifications in risk management, audit, compliance, project management, or related disciplines preferred
Hybrid/flexible schedule
The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $105,400.00 - $124,000.00
