About this role
Start Date: Mid-to-late September 2026
Location: Montana - Blackfeet Reservation (Browning, Heart Butte, East Glacier) & CSKT/Flathead Reservation (Polson, Pablo, Ronan, St. Ignatius, Arlee)
Hiring priority: Local candidates only. This role is being filled from within the local community/region first
Help power voter turnout in Montana's tribal communities.
About the Campaign
Groundswell Contact has partnered with Forward Montana, a nonpartisan 501(c) organization, to run a direct voter contact program across two distinct Native American communities in Montana’s 1st Congressional District: the Blackfeet Reservation and the CSKT/Flathead Reservation. We’re knocking doors and engaging at community sites to make sure residents know how, when, and where to vote - building toward a Get Out The Vote push as satellite voting locations open.
Given the geographic distance between the two reservations, this program is run as two distinct field operations, each requiring dedicated, high-accountability leadership capable of managing staff, data integrity, and community relationships in rural and dispersed territory.
About the Role
Groundswell is seeking to hire two Field Directors, a Lead Director and a Canvass Director, to manage these efforts.
This is a heavily field-based leadership role at both tiers. You will canvass extensively alongside your team. This is not a desk job, and candidates should be comfortable with a substantial majority of their working hours in the field leading by example, not in an office.
As Lead Director: You will hold top on-the-ground leadership for the entire Montana tribal voter contact program, overseeing operations across both the Blackfeet and CSKT/Flathead Reservations. You’ll manage the Canvass Director and canvass teams, own program-wide data integrity and reporting, and serve as the primary point of contact between the field program and Groundswell Contact leadership. This role requires someone who can operate independently in remote and dispersed territory, build trust quickly with local communities, and run a disciplined, metrics-driven field program with minimal in-person oversight.
As Canvass Director:
You will lead the day-to-day field execution at your assigned reservation site, working under the Lead Director to manage a team of canvassers, hit daily/weekly knock and contact goals, and ensure quality, respectful conversations at the door. This role is hands-on: you’ll be canvassing alongside your team regularly, coaching in real time, and keeping the program’s data clean and on pace.
—
Field Directors are at-will, exempt, salaried employees directly hired, managed and employed by Groundswell Contact, LLC.
