Job Title: Safety Specialist Job Description
The Safety Specialist will support ongoing construction activities at a large semiconductor facility in Boise, ID. This role focuses on planning, implementing, and supervising project safety programs, ensuring full compliance with all applicable safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements across a complex, high-tech construction environment.
Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and supervise project safety programs to ensure a safe work environment on a large semiconductor construction site.
- Implement and ensure compliance with corporate safety programs and the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
- Prepare detailed Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for all definable features of work to identify and mitigate risks.
- Develop site-specific safety plans, including fall protection, excavation, and confined space entry procedures.
- Deliver safety training to crew members on topics such as personal fall arrest systems, scissor lift operations, powered industrial truck operation, personal protective equipment, power tool safety, confined space entry, and other safety subjects required by corporate policy or contract.
- Verify that all personnel possess the required training certificates for the operations they perform and maintain appropriate documentation.
- Conduct daily jobsite safety audits as required by contract, documenting findings and following up on corrective actions.
- Review and record all required jobsite safety documentation created by foremen to ensure compliance with corporate policy, and report any retraining needs to the Safety Director.
- Investigate all accidents, injuries, and near misses, ensuring foremen documentation is thorough, accurate, and contains all necessary information, and forward appropriate documentation to the general contractor and the corporate office.
- Accompany injured workers during any necessary medical treatment to support proper care and ensure injuries and treatment are properly managed.
- Interface with general contractor safety personnel to resolve safety issues promptly and prevent work delays.
- Manage the site hazard communication program, including the handling and communication of information related to hazardous materials.
- Assist with new hire orientation by presenting safety expectations, procedures, and site-specific requirements.
- Conduct work area surveillance inspections and perform air sampling tests for welding operations to monitor exposure levels and verify compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain comprehensive site safety training records and documentation in an organized and accessible manner.
- Collaborate with the project team and provide safety-related support as needed to facilitate safe and efficient project execution.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated health and safety experience in construction safety, with a strong focus on field implementation and compliance.
- Experience in mechanical construction environments, including familiarity with process piping and related systems.
- Background in data center and semiconductor construction projects, with an understanding of their unique safety considerations.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations, supported by completion of OSHA 10, OSHA 30, OSHA 500, and OSHA 510 training.
- Ability to prepare and implement Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) and site-specific safety plans for fall protection, excavation, and confined space entry.
- Proficiency in delivering safety training to diverse crews on equipment operation, personal protective equipment, and specialized safety procedures.
- Skill in conducting jobsite safety audits, surveillance inspections, and air sampling tests, particularly for welding operations.
- Competence in managing hazard communication programs and maintaining accurate safety training records and documentation.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for interfacing with general contractor safety teams and project stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office for preparing reports, tracking training, and documenting safety activities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree is preferred, particularly in occupational safety, construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential is a strong plus.
- Experience in construction management and coordination on large, complex projects.
- Prior involvement in safety training program development and delivery for construction or industrial environments.
- Experience working on data center or semiconductor projects, with an understanding of high-tech facility requirements.
- Ability to work autonomously, demonstrate sound judgment, and take ownership of safety initiatives.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing documentation, certifications, and audit findings.
Work Environment
This is an onsite, project-based role at a major semiconductor construction project in Boise, ID. The schedule currently follows a 60/60/50 pattern, working Monday through Saturday with a 6:00 a.m. start and 10-hour days, reflecting the fast-paced nature of large-scale construction. The position is field-focused, and there is no dedicated local office; per diem is provided for project-based work. The primary general contractor on the project is a large, established firm, and the Safety Specialist will regularly interact with their safety team and project personnel. The environment involves active construction areas, mechanical systems, process piping, welding operations, and other industrial activities, requiring consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to site safety protocols. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
