Dye Operator

Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Dye Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently processing additive manufacturing parts through the dyeing operation while maintaining quality, productivity, and on-time delivery. Working as part of a two-person production team, Dye Operators are cross-trained to perform all stages of the dye process including preparation, dyeing, rinsing, drying, inspection, documentation, and packaging while following established Standard Work and operating procedures.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Work closely with the Project Technicians, Machine Technicians, and Lead Project Technician.
- Process production work orders using FIFO.
- Load, wash, prepare, dye, rinse, dry, inspect, and package parts according to Standard Work.
- Verify dye bath parameters before processing and perform bath refreshes as required.
- Operate automatic washers, dye tanks, rinse stations, drying equipment, and related equipment safely.
- Maintain batch documentation and traceability throughout the process.
- Inspect parts for color consistency and surface quality.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Report quality, equipment, and safety concerns promptly.
- Work effectively with other operators to meet production goals.
- Maintain a safe work environment.
- Promote a positive work environment.
- Assist in various stages of production as needed.
- Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities that may be assigned at any time.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year or related experience preferred.
- Solid technical attributes.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Great organizational skills.
- Beginning Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability to multitask.
- Able to accomplish tasks without constant supervision.
- Must be able to work as part of a team as well as independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to follow work instructions

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

- The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing areas where all areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shoes, and other mandatory safety equipment.
- Work is performed in a research/light-production environmentally controlled environment.
- Exposure to dust and powder metal/plastic particles will require use of a respirator.
- Occasional exposure to coolants or lubricating solutions, moving machinery, heat, compressed air, and electrical power.
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing specific tasks in production areas.
- Exposed to repetitive use of fingers, hands and arms.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift) on a manufacturing floor
- Frequent use of hands for handling, sanding, polishing, grinding, and finishing parts
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials weighing up to 25–50 pounds, with or without assistance
- Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required to operate finishing tools and equipment
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to dust, fumes, noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures
- Ability to distinguish colors, finishes, and surface defects as needed for quality inspection
- Sufficient vision (with or without correction) to inspect detailed parts and surfaces
- Ability to safely operate finishing equipment such as grinders, sanders, bead blasters, or similar tools
