Upper School History Teacher - Leave Replacement

Miami Country Day School seeks an enthusiastic and experienced educator to serve as an Upper School History Teacher (Leave Replacement). The teacher will assume responsibility for three existing history classes and work closely with colleagues in the Upper School and Humanities Department. The successful candidate will be comfortable stepping into established courses, collaborating with members of the Humanities Department, and providing students with a consistent, engaging, and supportive learning experience.

The ideal candidate will be able to quickly establish relationships with students, maintain established course expectations and pacing, and create an engaging classroom environment that promotes historical thinking, discussion, analysis, and active learning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS

- Teach one section of World History and two sections of U.S. History.

- Prepare and deliver lessons aligned with the existing curriculum, course objectives, and pacing.

- Establish and communicate clear learning objectives and expectations.

- Facilitate active, inquiry-based learning and historical analysis.

- Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback.

- Maintain accurate records of student assignments, assessments, and progress.

- Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs.

- Establish and maintain a positive, productive classroom environment.

- Use relevant technology appropriately to support teaching and learning.

- Collaborate with Humanities Department colleagues and Upper School administration to ensure continuity of instruction.

- Participate in relevant department, school, and parent meetings as appropriate to the duration of the assignment.

- Perform other duties related to the teaching assignment as needed.

Qualifications

- Bachelors degree in History, Social Studies Education, or a related field.

- Prior middle or upper school history teaching experience strongly preferred.

- Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. History and World History.

- Ability to step into an established curriculum and provide consistent instruction with minimal disruption to students.

- Strong classroom management and communication skills.

- Ability to establish positive and effective working relationships with students, colleagues, and families.

- Commitment to student-centered learning and thoughtful instructional practice.

- Flexibility, reliability, and willingness to collaborate as part of a dynamic professional community.

This is a temporary leave-replacement position intended to provide instructional coverage during the absence of a current faculty member.
